They claim 'it's all about safety', and demand FMVSS compliance... When some of these trucks were built before FMVSS.... They'll register a Model T, but not a deuce (in MD, for example).
It has nothing to do with 'safety', has to do with control.
That's why I mentioned contact area.
2x 1200s have larger patch area than 1x 395.
In sand, a single 1200r20 is 147² in contact, and a 395 is 220² in footprint. While dualled 1200R20s dropped to low pressure aren't suggested due to tire rub, it's definitely doable.
So, 147 *4 = 588² in...
It really depends on your state, how your licensing agencies deal with things, and whether or not the agent you're dealing with has had their beauty sleep. I've processed a ton of SF-97s in 2 states with no issues. Military vehicles in general are starting to get the eye of freedom hating...
Exactly this!
1200r20s in dual configuration actually have higher load capacity and more ground contact area than a single 395.
This is what you need in the wrecker application.
1200r20 = 30,440 lb tire rating per axle, when dualled, and a footprint of 360² in
395/85R20 = 20,400 lb tire...
Issue is glow plugs. They pull a lot of juice. If it's a normal start, then you can put one on each BATTERY, on its respective positive and negative terminals, and do NOT use a ground point (although, technically you could use ground for front battery).
I searched and didn't find anything on the sizes of the lines.
I searched through the TMs, and cross referenced them to GM part numbers and got the sizes.
Hopefully this will make things easier for those having vacuum issues.
Yeah. Especially with the box I'm looking at putting on it.
I might just have to do duals.
I'm curious what the experience is of people running 1100s or 1200s singled out vs dual 1100s or 900s re: drivability, turning, MPG, acceleration (LOL!), etc.
Debating on dual 1200s, or singled 1200s with hub flip.
Help me make my decision.
Single rating is 8200lbs, so still well within the weight handling capacity, even singled out.
CUCVs didn't come with compressors, except the M1010, and you'll get a lot of confused replies. Probably just easier to ask for the compressor bracket for the M1010.
To answer your question, you can find the part number in the TM.
-10, -20(p), -34(p) are what you want...
As much as I hate Amazon....
Ordered oil filters WIX filters (some of the best), with O-rings, for like $15...
6 - 12oz bottles of DOT5 for $38
Still working on finding inexpensive fuel line, and redoing the primary and secondary fuel filters with spin ons.
Resistor based vs PWM voltage regulated. It's greek, I know..
I also linked headlights in that post... Skip the H4 housings and LED bulbs and go with LED projectors like I listed.... ;)
Might be state related. Hagerty added towing for my M934, but I had to pay for it...I think it was an extra $150/yr. A friend had Hagerty and they towed his deuce... on a rollback.. Probably violated half a dozen laws in the process.. height, weight, you name it.
