People in MI are broke and scrap anything now. I do not think anything WAS wrong with the engine but im pretty shure its set up now. I will look this weekend if I get out there. Ill snap a few pics.
Just saw this thread involves a 6cyl allis chalmers with a db2 pump. Is this the same or simmilar that would have been used in combines or tractors? just curious as one just came into the scrap yard. any parts that might be usefull?
Yup, Had one optima do the same thing you are descibing, and another blow up in my face ( My left eye has dammage from it ). I have a few other optimas that work great.
I have mixed feelings about them.
The twin stick mod requires you to remove the shift rails (you have to grind them so the inter-lock pins will allow movement) Before you spend any $ clean those rails up and see if its any better. If it isnt then you may have to pull the case apart, there is some light grinding that can be done...
I would use the pto with my 1031 box......
As to rebuilding, You didnt say anything about hard to shift and grinding in your first post.....
Chances are new bearings and seals are not going to fix that problem. If you where to remove the tie bar from the shift rails and clean them with emery...
Its a primer/sealer that is applied to the castings at the mill to protect them from rusting before they are sent to be finish machined. Not a big deal to replace but it is nice as it keeps rust from forming inside the parts. Not a necesity though.

So unfortunatly I have to work 8-5 x 5 days a week (work is getting a bit rediculess with interfearing with my MV hobby) But my Dad was nice enough to see if he could get the hydralics to work.

Well Made it home today with the truck :D. Drove out there to bleed the brakes out and hook up the air line, On the way out I decided the roads where clear enough to try it. It took 2 hours but we made it !!!! By the time we got home though it was to dark to take pics with my phone so I will...
