I kind of doubt gasket paper would hold up to torsional loading as the bolt is secured. We are talking about the hard red fiber gaskets under the bolt head securing the oil filter cannister to the oil filter and cooler body.
From everything I've read, Deuces are still out there working in Iraq. The pic I posted was from a previous post which described it as being taken in Iraq during the current war.
If it is quiet, it is a "D" turbo! There is no mistaking the sound of a "C". Joel had it right. Just picture the loudest turbo whine you have heard on a HD rig, multiply it by a factor of 10, and you have a "C" turbo sound.
Attached is a not too great picture of the "C" turbo on my Deuce. You...
You gotta have cast iron balls to drive an unknown GL truck from PA to ME in basically sub zero weather and no in cab heater. You are a much more rugged person than I. I only had to go about 230 miles, 4+ hours, across the state of MI in merely freezing weather and with a heater! Of course, with...
Oh how I love winch trucks. Just wish mine had one! But what a combo, a Deuce and "Ma Deuce"! Here is one of my favorite pics, from the current war in Iraq.
Some of the smaller chains carry a line of automotive hardware named "Doreman", as best I remember. My local Parts Plus carries it, the clerk dug around through the drawers and found some that were a near perfect match. The OD was slightly smaller than original but still larger than the bolt...
RE: Re: RE: duece cost
Ugg - Yeah, you story as written was pretty scary. Mine was pretty scary too, but I only had 230 miles to get home. I bought a GL truck on a wish and a prayer, never previewed it, was fortunate enough to find an AFNG base mechanic with M35 experience to check out the...
RE: tires
Wade - Best bet with Rodney is to get a couple of local folks and do a mini-group buy. He charges mostly by mileage for shipping, if you can find a few other folks in your area who want tires, the price per tire goes way down.
Yes, I recall reading you thread about your experiences getting the "Frog" home. Amusing to me, not very funny to you. Did you ever replace that blue tarp with a decent cab cover? As I mentioned above, some of the GL Site Managers are real pricks, some could give a s**t less! Mine was only...
Here are a couple of guys on Epay selling the monster super singles. The first one is a guy named Rodney, I know several guys here in MI who have bought from him and are satisfied. If you can do a group buy in your area, Rodney will deliver them personally at a pretty decent price. Don't know...
Damn, your roads suck. Here in the US our lanes are about 12' wide, which seem to be the width of a two lane in the UK! Good luck trying to drive there, love the sound of that "C" turbo regardless! Best regards, Lee
The site managers at GL are an inconsistent lot at best. Some sites make you tow your vehicle off the site, others could care less. When I picked up my truck, the only thing the site manager cared about was that I sign the invoice so he could get back to his nice warm office. As far as he was...
Other than Clarke, you could also try Oshkosh Truck at http://www.oshkoshequipment.com/ or Memphis Equipment at http://www.memphisequipment.com/. There are a few other vendors out there, especially along the east coast. Perhaps someone else out there could chime in with a few more MV dealers?
Boy, do I feel old. When I was on AD, M-48s were still in service, the M-60 was just entering service, and now they are collector's items! Interestingly, I got my military driver's license certified for the M-35 about the same year my Deuce was made - 1970!
There was a thread in the Deuce mod and hot rod forum where there seemed to be quite a bit of interest in spin on filters. How much $ are we talking? Spin on filters would be a convenience for filter changes, but anti drain back spin ons would be great, should solve the dry start problem with a...
Actually, if you go to http://www.steelsoldiers.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=4255, there is a link to download the Microsoft Picture Resizer Powertool to resize pictures. A genuine Microsoft add-in, so it is no more buggy than the rest of your OS and it works slicker than snot...
He was outside playing with his truck in 30 degree weather because he was having a HEAT WAVE!!!!! Here it is 6 degrees outside now and getting colder! That's why I haven't gone outside to figure out if it is my master cylinder or my stoplight switch that is leaking brake fluid. That, and I'd...
Kudos to you, emmando22. That is a lot of money to pay up front but it sounds like you did your homework on this one. I spent $2750 on mine, with parts I've bought I'm probably up to $4500 out of pocket plus about $10,000 in sweat equity! I still have to get back to you on the master cylinder...
