    Pre & Post Pyro Placement

Bjorn Sez: Is it possible to use two prodes with one pyro by using s selector switch or are you suggesting installing a second pyro?

    Pre & Post Pyro Placement

Thanks for the input. It's surprising but everything makes sense. I could have lived with a 20 or 30 degree differential but not 200 or 300. Guess it's time to order some gaskets and drop the turbo so I can drill and tap the manifold. Thanks again.

    Pre & Post Pyro Placement

I'm attempting to sort out the real story on exhaust gas temperature (EGT) readings and pyrometer placement. I know this subject had been bandied about on previous posts BUT I don't think anyone has ever address temperature differentials between pre and post turbo placement. The pyro on my...

    Lockable Fuel tank!

Here is what I did: It is by no means as secure as previously pictured but it was quick. Basically it is a deterrent that requires a thief to have to have tools and be willing to take the time to use them. I personally feel that when someone is cruising for an opportunity to steel fuel and...

    Forty Below Zero Deuce

RE: Re: Forty Below Zero Deuce maddawg308 sez: No --- I seriously doubt that but I have driven on the ice up here. In fact, until just recently an ice road to Lac Lacroix came through Crane Lake. In winters when we do't have a lot of snow, which insulates and therefore keeps the ice from...

    Forty Below Zero Deuce

I don't have the time of facilities to tinker either. I think Lee Houde is or will be working on a pre-lube system. Given what Lee and his family has recently gone through with the passing of his wife he has no doubt had other priorities. Before installing my new LDS engine I'm going to...

    Forty Below Zero Deuce

Bjorn --- That's good to know. I had never checked it. My assumptions have probably led me astray on the spin down time.

    Forty Below Zero Deuce

I knew that you should wait until the EGT cools down before shutting down but I've always assumed that even after running at idle for two or three minutes with cool EGTs the turbo continues to spin for three or four minutes after shutdown.

    Forty Below Zero Deuce

I should have mentioned in my origional post that aside from complexity concerns I also couldn't find a military heater kit. Bjorn Sez: Dosen't the "arctic" battery compartment have provision for coolant hook-up? Is the genset to start at 40 below or do you keep it indoors?

    Forty Below Zero Deuce

Following are some pictures of one of my latest projects After doing some research on the standard military arctic engine heater I came to a personal conclusion that the military unit is a little too complex for my liking. I like simplicity and sometimes, <personal> there are other...

    Re-Powering The Deuce With A 5-Ton LDS-465-1A Engine

I'll take all the help I can get. I think it's going to be a simple swap but it's something that needs to be thought out. As previously mentioned, once we pull the trigger on the project I want to have everything on hand. I'm attaching a picture of the discharge flange of the LDS-1A turbo...

    251 marine engine

It would be interesting to know the power curve on the marine cam. Given that marine applications demand maximum torque, the cam may be just what the doctor ordered. My guess is that the crank will bolt right up to the standard automotive (perhaps the more appropriate word should be...

    Re-Powering The Deuce With A 5-Ton LDS-465-1A Engine

The lifting bar came with the engine. Someone put a lot of work and thought into it. Evidently the rear hole is for lifting the complete power-pack. When I get into this project I'll make a sketch of the bar and post it on the SS. I always assumed that the exhaust system on the 5-ton was larger...

    Re-Powering The Deuce With A 5-Ton LDS-465-1A Engine

My new LDS-465-1A "TD" engine arrived Friday. I've got a lot of homework to do to get everything all in one pile before installation which will hopefully be in late October. Following are some pictures. I'm thinking that the discharge flange dimentions on the LDS turbo are quite a bit larger...

Need advice on insurance, historic, no garage

I'm currently going through the same insurance dilema. I've been with Continental Western, on a collector policy but when I received my renewal notice it contained a cover letter that spooked me. It says the vehicle must be parked in a fully enclosed garage and that it must be driven primarily...
