1991 m931a2 lost air on recovery.

JUANPRADO, I am not sure that I've seen the bracket after they removed the alcohol kit. Can you attach a pic? Thanks!

1991 m931a2 lost air on recovery.

I am not trying to pick on the OP, but this is a perfect reason why newly acquired trucks should not be driven out. Things fail when you don't know a truck. Heck, they fail when you do know a truck well. Better to get it home and go over it carefully. Sure, it costs more, but that money buys...

When Does a Truck get Overhauled?

Be careful. Inspect whatever you hope to own. Even that is tough because a lot of what the rebuild entails is nothing more than superficial. Sure, the motor looks new, but it is probably just a coat of paint (and probably not a rebuild). Check the data plate on the engine and you'll see that...

5-Ton M923-what is this in the cab?

I'd be shocked if they removed and reinstalled the cargo bed. If that truck was being used a fuel truck, they inserted the 600 gallon fuel pods and reel assembly in the bed. Since the truck still is without troop seats, I bet that is what they meant.

    Georgia USMC Wreckers

The cool thing is that I saw locker data plates, but, I agree, they are going to need work and I hope the motors are free. Who knows how long they have been sitting?

    M924A2 What is this?

They "supposedly" made some of the non-dropside non-winch trucks (M924) and winch trucks (M926), but I have never seen one. I have, however, seen the data plates as a good friend has a supply of every VIN data plate in the series.

    A3 transmission replacement questions

Unless you are sure the transmission is toast when you drop the pan, I'd take it to an Allison tech. Just my $.02. I wish you luck.

    A3 transmission replacement questions

It seems to me as if you are taking a more expensive truck and basically making it a less expensive truck, forgetting about preference for an automatic or manual transmission. The M109A4s bring GOOD money. There are few M109A3s out that that are going for $10K, regardless of what the sellers...

M925A2 Fuel Tank Algae?? Black tar substance on bottom of tank

Take it to a professional shop and have them clean out your fuel system. I had the same problem with an M925A2 that was a military mechanic school truck and had 120 original miles on it. For a reasonable fee (I don't recall the exact amount, but I believe it was like $250), they cleaned...

M-1026 heater issue... is everyone else freezing to death?

Huh?!? Stop messing around with the standard heater kits. With my (gas) fuel burning heater in my M151A2 with a soft top, I can run around at any temperature and I am toasty, almost uncomfortably so. In my M925A2, I either have to shut the heat down every little while (no matter the...

M-1026 heater issue... is everyone else freezing to death?

Find a fuel burning heater kit. You will be noticeably warmer.

    M923a2 oils

I liked your disclosure. I should have used the same thing. That 10W and Dexron are listed because I was told that the former is basically the latter minus the additives.

    83 am General Truck batteries

I realize you are going to swap all of the batteries, but I was told that the 6TL and 6MF batteries, while equivalent replacements, are not the same from a charging perspective. There might be battery experts on this list who will refute this, but I was told by John Winslow, a guy I respected...

    M923a2 oils

Well, my info was not my personal opinion and I stated that. I was told that by an Allison dealer in Landover, MD. I was told that 10W oil was fine, but they would RECOMMEND Transynd or, barring that, Dexron. I went with Dexron. I never asked about 10W40. Perhaps, they would have the same...

    M923a2 oils

I used to have an M977 (my avatar) that was a fairly (to me) expensive vehicle. Once I realized it had what I thought was the wrong fluid in the transmission (based upon what I was told by Allison), the decision was easy...swap it out and do it a few more times to get rid of all of the 10W. I...

    M923a2 oils

I think that they wanted parts/fluids commonality. As you can see, and is proven by all of the trucks coming out, other fluids besides Dexron and Transynd work. I have been told that Dexron is nothing more than 10W oil with additives, and I'd think that Transynd is the same except it is...

    M923a2 oils

You are making a valid point. It all depends upon whether or not you want to adhere with the original manufacturer's recommendations. My Allison dealer told me what Allison recommends. If you bought a transmission from them, and put 10W or 15W40 in a new transmission, and it failed, I believe...

    M923a2 oils

You will need to check to see what kind of fluid is already in the transmission, but it is probably 10 weight. I always go with Dexron, but the latest fluid is TRANSYND (synthetic). I have spoken to my local Allison shop and asked them what they would recommend in the tranny, and it is NOT 10...
