I guess its more a design problem. Its more a could the steel springs be replaced with air springs. And I get the ,it works why try something .
I have see some of the big German truck have air springs. Just got me thinking ?
Here I'm working out a problem and don't even have one yet. LOL
Need to look at one in full travel and then the weights ? Then their is the pivot bridge to take the place of the spring pack. I'm told the 6 wheeler ride better but don't know.
Not sure what size bags would need to be ? 2 on each side some air lines. Maybe some kind of regulator and control. Then their would be the mount. And that not to say I could or should be done.
What do you think ?
Could the spring pack be changed and could a air bag be installed where the spring pack pickups at the axle ? The photo is of a M1088. Not sure what the black object is ?
Just thinking.

I know ! The back spacing is more the problem. But the price is right.
Been working on a idea for the adapter.
Just need to find a shop with CNC to build them.
It is for a new idea around the M1078. Thinking about using a NPR or Fuso chassis (like the COE) with a F350 4x4 front and...
Yes to all. Its a idea I have and was thinking about using the Dana 60 (like the F350) for the axles. Was thinking about using the Alum. MRAP wheels with the 395/85r20 tires.
I know their are adapeters for the 2 1/2 ton. Was thinking maybe their are some for the dana axle?
Thanks Suprman. I have been watching for about a year now. And their just going up,up,up. Was hopping that the trend would slow but ? No luck.
The 700 lbs would be good. When I pulled my 5th wheel stuff I needed the forklift to move things around. She even groaned a little
when I pulled the plate.
Here is my thinking after looking a the 6x6. It will need a box ( living space ) and that floor could be built to be stiff for its own load. The extra axle will give 33%+- more traction than the 4x4 (M1078). It would have more flotation +- ?(think sand ,mud). Would be heavier than the M1078 but...
I have moved on. This could be done but the 6 wheels and tires are looking better.
So, a M1078 weight's 16,699 lbs. And a M1088 is 18,640. Do you think the 5th wheel stuff weights 1000 lbs. ?
No sh!t . LOL
With having to build the box I don't think the odd chassis is going to be that much of big deal .
Also everything is going to be a one off anyways.
Here is a shot of the semi/RV build. Needed to stretch the chassis for the 20' box.
I'm just trying another way around the problem...
Suprman,do you think the idea of pulling the 5th wheel stuff and using the chassis is doable ? I know it adds work but ? Its a little bigger than what I had in mind but, what the he!! !
Thanks for your input also !
