    The ICOM 706mkII is a good radio...is it the mkII or the mkIIg? The IIg is what I use in the house for the HF rig at this point.

    I'd recommend the ICOM V8000 for a simple but powerful little 2M radio (75 watts). Mine has been rock solid. Of course you'll need 12V for the radio's. My son has the Yaesu VX 170.
