120mm cans
I have two of them I got from Colemans, Couldn't resist the price. If I had a 1009. I'd lay them down behind the rear seat with a 3/4in spacer underneath so u could open em and use 3/4in plywood on top as a false floor. If they are too long, Just cut to fit and weld the bottoms back...
Bad tranny
Pulled the trans out of my 1031 today to save some $$$, won't shift out of 1st. When it does, No OD, Inconsistent shifts. It's a 700r4 swap by the previous owner. I have only had it for a few months-400 miles. It's a good thing I took it out, Seeing as I could have used a 1/4 in...
That thought did cross my mind at one point, but I operate heavy equipment and at the end of the day i just want to put it in gear and go. It is a great idea though. A lot of fab work is a downside. I'll be borrowing a friends shop to swap out the 700. a quick in and out job as not to tie up his...
th400
Thanks Red, I just want to be able to enjoy this truck witthout constantly having to worry about a trans failure. It's a great truck other than that. M1031. 99.9% rust free and under 40k miles. It's tight. Guess I'll have to be content with 50 mph. 50 is better than zero. been shoping...
reverse osmosis
After three weeks of trying to get the gremlins out of my 700r4, converted by the previous owner i have decided I may go back to the bullet proof th400, no tv cable, sticky valves, no BS. I contacted the privious owner about any issues with the trans and he said, "nope, it ran...
Re starting fluid
No 1, Don't ever use ether, You probably know that already. The engine stopped cranking due to ether lock. Use liquid wrench silicone, Works great. No damage. No 2, Why convert to 12v? The starting sys on these trucks is really not that complicated, just looks that way. The...
M1031 buckboard ride
I did an oil change and had to make a tv cable adj on my m1031, wasn't shifting right. It has a 700r4 and a banks turbo installed by the previous owner. It also has a flatbed in place of the contact maint box. It's light. I took it for a 40mi ride from ossining ny to...
Welcome from New York
Your truck looks pretty strait, Keep that positive attitude! If it gets frustrating, grab a coffee and walk away from it for a few. Do the doghead starter relay mod asap. It's added peace of mind and a wallet friendly easy upgrade. Lots of great info and people here. Have...
Get the truck and fimiliarize yourself with it. Check belts, hoses, fluids. Get a digital multimeter, It is a very important tool when it comes to these trucks. Save the lift kit and ginormus tires for later. Get it roadworthy as a daily driver first. As BIG RED said, No over revving and warm it...
Sounds more like a starter motor problem. The bendix is not fully engaging and grinding on the ringear. Pull trans cover off and look for any ground teeth on it. Spray PB Blaster on the worm gear, They get sticky sometimes. U may have to change the starter motor solinoid. or get a reman starter...
Windshield washer upgrade
I don't know if anyone has done this yet, I installed a dual pump windshield washer tank from a donor 2002 s10 blazer i've been stripping of parts. Here it is.On the blazer, Remove washer tank and clip back as much feed hose as you can. save the bolt. On M1031 Remove...
I like to hear that snap, That way I know it's working and with all that 6.2 clatter going on under the hood one more sound isn't going to bother me. These trucks are spartan and noisey. The D5MXL I run is quieter in the cab.:)
Fabbed seat mounts and installed bucket seats. Installed dual pump windshield washer tank from donor 02 s10 blazer. Applied spray cosmolene to underside of cab and inside frame rails. They drown the roads with salt up here in winter.
I did it last Sunday as per Doghead's instructions. I used heat shrink terminals and the NAPA part #, It takes about a half hour to do it. Cut, strip and and pinch terminals on four wires and your done, It's too easy! PS follow Doghead's advice, I think he has this stuf figured out.
