I second the check the high-beam switch, if it is stuck or missing the headlights won't work. It's on the driver's side of the column, just follow the op rod from the turn signal switch.
Also check the grounds at each headlight, the left one is grounded to one of the bolts holding the radiator...
Better yet, take the old shoes in with you, compare them to the new ones in the box. Ask for the biggest ones that you can get for a 1984 K5. Or have them cross the GM number in the TM
The new wheel cyl may or may not come with the rod... I'd check first before you go scavenging. Also, NAPA...
When you go get parts for your CUCV, tell the counter monkey that it's a 1984 Chevy K30 with a 6.2 and TH400. No matter what year your CUCV is, or if it's a Blazer (except for axle parts) that is what your truck is. GM did not apply the year to year updates to the CUCV series to maintain...
The Air Force required all non-operational equipment turned in to DRMO to be drained and purged of fluids at least as of 2004. If it was operational and driven into the yard, it did not have to be drained. And yes, it is EPA driving the bus on these regulations.
We did NOT have to wash out an...
I would get the M37 inspected and legal, then bring the parts truck over and swap the windshield with the inspection sticker and tags over to the parts truck while it was in the driveway. Tell the inspector that you're doing 'routine maintenance' on it and it should be operational again very...
The early CUCVs had a different spindle nut than the 4 pin ones that have been used in Dana 44 axles since the 60s... I would recommend trashing them and getting the 4 pin ones as they are a direct swap. NAPA sells them and all my local NAPAs have several sets in stock.

In the last picture, comparing the beige resistor to the blue resistor just above it near the chip, it looks like the band is red. The color bands are green, brown, red, gold which makes it a 5.1 kΩ resistor. The black thing with the silver band and numbers in the last picture is the diode that...
It might be quicker and cheaper to just replace the whole axle... Here's one in CA for $400

It blew because the boneheads at Advance Auto hooked up batteries wrong and sent a reverse polarity through the system, blowing up all sorts of stuff...
As was said before, the completely blown off item is a diode, it is typically used to prevent reverse polarity from going through the system...
See, this is the problem with any 'non-enviro' groups. Nobody bands together to make sure that all user's rights are preserved, the 'factions' all fight for their little niche and to heck with everyone else. Gun rights enthusiasts do it with hunters vs sport shooters vs "EBR" owners vs...
What kind of truck is it? If the interior damage is that extensive, I'd suggest trying to find a donor cab to replace the whole thing. Biggest problem with that will be the VIN, so make sure you document the whole rebuild process and then talk to the DMV to find out the procedures for getting...
Grr, it was tempting enough before he dropped the price, although I really don't have room for another large truck until I get rid of my 818...

The relay under the dash might be sticking or bypassed... I'd start there. There are two black Bosch relays and a silver relay bolted to a bracket just to the driver's side of the round plug under where the stereo would go. One is for the voltmeter, the other is for the second alternator...
How extensive is the damage from the fire? I have repaired a Dodge 3500 that had a column fire that destroyed the dash, windshield and seat, but didn't hurt the surrounding metal.
What exactly is fire damaged and what is just smoke/water damaged? Pics would help immensely.

Ok... well the one alternator shouldn't be able to charge the 12V side of things, unless the whole truck has been converted to 12V with a 12V Leese alternator. Of course, the truck might have had the upper alt removed before turn in.
You have a couple of options to repair the truck at this...
When you say distribution block on the firewall, you mean the diamond shaped one just above the relay? Just want to make sure you didn't hook it to the big block on the passenger's side, because that's 24V and would burn out all the glow plugs quickly.
Again, I'd suggest starting a new thread...
I know that some of the last 1028s had the 1010 charging system to provide both AC and the higher amp charging system for the comm shelters, I'm trying to determine if he has a stripped out ambulance or a CMT body on the back. I know it doesn't make a difference in his problems, I'm just...
