    stupid heater, stupid thermostat.

Just did a t stat housing on a 1028 today. one of the bolts broke and I ended up with cracked T stat housing boss before I was done. I should have done better after all these years. A few reminders; Steal bolts in aluminum will corrode, stick to propane if you are using heat on aluminum...

    No engine power

My first guess would be a air leak in fuel system. Lots of good info on older threads. Also check fuel delivery from lift pump . if not those then it might be the injector pump, which is a 4 to 7 hundred $ part and a bit of work.

New to me m1008 hard starting

I would guess you have an air leak in the fuel system. Check many previous threads.

    Fuel Filter base ID

On a cucv, if you take off the filter. on the lower right of the filter base, you will see a 1 inch or so diameter space in the casting. If there is a sensor with two wires attached . it is old style base, if the round indentation is empty, and the two wires go to the back, it is a new style...

Need general deisel tips, getting my first friday

Cucv's have a high idle, adavnced timing mode for initial warm up. If everything is working, it usually runs fast for 2 to 5 minuts, depending on temp.. I usually let mine kick down before hitting the road, as I beleive this is better for the piston rings.

Few more ?'s get this baby started!

Again,... check that fuel filter base is not leaking air. Not the only possible problem, but in my experience, a common one. lots of prevoius threads about this.

New guy here - couple of ?'s

There should be fuel there. If there isn't, you may have cracked fuel line of some other air leak before lift pump.(this is fuel pump on front passenger side of engine, same as a small block chev). It is good to change fuel filter, also there is a sensor in the fuel filter base that leaks down...

    M1008 Gauges

Chevy offered a gauge option on civy 6.2s. They were instead if the idiot lights, so your installation of better than stock gauges there makes sense.

    Deadly shakes

If you have checked all ball joints & tie rod ends, and tires are good, I would concur with Ranchhoper, I Had a infrequent but severe death wobble in a 1008 work truck. Thought it could not be the steering u-joints, I knew they were bad, bit my hubs were not engaged, so I ruled them out...

Bad on the restart ? ?

If you buy it, the easyest thing to do it take it home and put in manual glow switch. This topic is well covered in previous threads.

    Will not start?

And of course check that sensor in fuel filter base is not leaking air. This has always been a problem, and the military upgraded the filter base, but the last 3 trucks I got from gl had not yet had the upgrade, I realize this is well covered in preyoius threads. This has been a problem in 2...

    Generator safety

This is a good post, I was told if I turned off the main, it was ok to backfeed pannel. I believe you and will look into a manual shut off. I still don't understand how the main being off would not isolate my pannel from grid. Have used my small genset before to save frozen food and pump well...

    Engine Death Knell... ?

Sometimes you just have to replace your flex plate and starter drive. Especially if you or the previous owner had an poorly mounted starter. At some point it will grind at all flywheel contact points.(flex plate on an automatic) It's not hard ,but is time consuming. Use new parts, for the...

    STARTER WOES

I apologize for the wrong info I posted. I just checked the 1028 I am currently wonking on and it does not have the secondary filter. My first three 6.2 s were older civy rigs that had this filter. Sorry about that. Hope its the glow plugs, and if you have'nt done so replace fuel filter and see...

    STARTER WOES

It could be the ip. in my experiance they do not fail without warning, ie lack of acceleration or air in fuel symtoms , or leakage. You were right to check fuel pressure and ip solinoid. I would check glow plugs because it is so easy, and mabey they got fried, even though you figure the engine...

Want to see pics of gov. locker in CUCV's

For any differential, even if you can not find stampings, you can figure out gear ratio by dividing number of pinion teeth into the number of ring gear teeth. .

    Help!! Cucv will not start

Can you get a 24 v starter at NAPA? I have never found one in auto parts stores.

    8 lug rim question

Having played around in the junk yard, I would say that some of the 8 bolt rims are interchangable, but just being able to jam it on does not mean it is a proper fit. Check offset as mentioned in this thread. Also center ring can be slightly different . chevy duals use a ring clamp system that...

Won m1009 going to put m1008 running gear under it:)

Funny how the" grass is always greener" I bought some 1008s to add to my work fleet (which includes 1008s and 1028s)and one 1009 .Everyone who has driven both types remarks how much nicer the 1009 is to drive. this is due, I suspect, to the higher gear ratio.
