Electrical problems in my older, bought 3rd hand,1008 work trucks have been hard to chase down. I usually figure it out in the long run, or at least make my own patch to the problem that I understand. A good low amp, self governing trickle charger will get you through until you figure it out...
Yes , I used a stock starter bolt. If you get the correct kit, the Heli coil insert thread should match the stock size bolt. But do not re use bolts. Buy new bolts. and use new bolts whenever you remove the starter. (since this has been a problem on this truck) It is possible to...
My overall experiance with Harbor freight has been dissapointing. Sure you can buy a n industrial looking tool for low money, but they usually won't hold up to actual commercial use. They are fine if you want to use them a couple of times a year, but even then,.... anyway, you usually get what...
If electricals are ok, maybee you fuel filter mount is leaking air. This is easy to fix once diagnosed. A lot of cucv s never got the new and improved filter base, and I had a new style one fail as well.
If it is rotting out and needs a lot of work, and you like your 1009, well if it was me, I;d get a clean one for 2-4$k and keep on drivin. saving the parts truck if you have room, or strip key parts and let it go. Time is worth a lot, and I,ve wasted a lot of mine trying to save rust.
As I posted earlyer in this thread, the Heli Coil does work for the 6.2 starter. Have done this repair myself and it is still holding up with no issues 3 or 4 years later. I did change to a gear reduction starter, which weighs a lot less. Since you first posted, I'm sure you have learned a lot...
Like k45 said, be sure you are in neutral on transmission when you shift transfer case and not in motion. Also disengage hubs. Try runnig though gear positions with engine off. Transfer case lever should be jogged to the right between 2wd & 4. Check operators manual This transfer case can...
I had a B-61 Mack 10 wheeler with power streering. The drag link had a hydrollic valve that sensed right, left or neutral, and sent hydrolic flow to a cylender on tie rod , which assisted steering. This was not unusual for 50s and 60s trucks. simerlar systems were used in tractors. There...
There have been tires like that available for skid steer loaders for several years, marketed to landfill operators and the like. Never tried them myself.
To get a a old 1008, that I bought third hand and heavly plowed, though one more landscape season( and inspection), I fabricated rocker panel with copper flashing and riveits.( It is easy to work and make look right) Zinc works to and is cheeper, but harder to shape. Filled in gaps with...
Wondering what anyone is using for sound insulation on floorboards and firewall, one that does not promote rust like the original floor pad. Have considered Cat cab insulation, but it is not a perfect or cheep solution. Any Ideas?
I wonder if oil will screw up future paint adheasion. If you are working in the open, try automotive laquer thinner, Prep solve, automotive enamal recucer or even acetone if it is a smaller area. Use chemical resistant gloves and lots of clean rags. The above should work as well as brake cleaner.
An alternate to spray cans would be to prep it lightly: clean, degrease and scuff as mentioned above, and the use a one coat primer sealer, lighltly scuff for spray nibs, and shoot with enamel of you choice.
I have to get a sticker on my f-800 soon, I'll let you know how it goes. I heard something wierd about trailer inspections as well. It is not so much about federal buracracy around here as more lilekey some kind of commercial payoff. Some one well connected probably got the contract for...
I recently had this problem (again) and replaced primary fuel filter mount. Took care of the problem. I have yet to take time to pressure test one of the old mounts to see where leaking. One member posted on a previous thread about this subject that he put in a Racore. You loose the ste=ice...
