    H1 vs. HMMWV?

AM General was smart and used the civilian H1 as a test bed for many of the military upgrades that they wanted to do. The civilian owners were able to beat them as badly as the military GIs, (and I've pictures to prove it). I think most of the HMMWV owners are more into authentic military...

    Transmission Upgrade Questions

On different transfer cases and disconnects for the front wheels, no you don't save 31%. (the catchall "up to..." is the fine print there!) There may be a small savings however. A good starting point is to go and join the HummerNetworkForums (HML) and do a search. There is one kit available to...

    converting to ABS traction control

Yes, that is where they are... Only 1999 and later H1's have the tone rings however. There has been discussion about whether they could be added to earlier half-shafts or not, but the result was "not easily"... :-P But I'm sure someone who wanted badly enough, could figure a way.

    converting to ABS traction control

First, having one with ABS/TT4 and one without, I'd say that ABS likely won't fix your problem. THere are more issues with this than just adding the ABS stuff, the differentials are different (the lockup preload biasing is different). In reality many H1 owners with the ABS trucks want to get it...

    hours on generator

Agreed, it is far from optimal! I wanted 3 phase capability (in case I get some 3 phase machine tools) and 8 to 10 KW will do my needs just fine. Worse case, I could split my house load into three phases if I needed, but I don't see that as a problem. So far the only thing that I have that I...

    hours on generator

I'll (politely) disagree with Speddmon, there is certainly no reason you can't use in 120/208 volt mode. You do get a bit less power (since you are only using two of the three phases), and some 240 appliances may not run properly but it is usable. IIRC, even the manual (TM) tells you this is an...

    Mep-114A, or MEP-815A Price

Most of the 30 KW units were a six cylinder engine, and the 15 KW units were fours. Basically the same engine design, just two more cylinders, IIRC. Too bad it is not 50/60 Hz! Right now there are a *bunch* of gen sets on GL, this is the URL that I"m on right now. 6115 - Generator and...

    Cheap Ebay Hummer

There are several lists of the differences between the Hummer H1 and a HMMWV. Basically, mechanically they are the same (except the H1 was always the technical leader where AM General first tried out new technology before selling it to the military. Electrically, the H1 is 12 volt (two, parallel...

    Cheap Ebay Hummer

You can just drop in a 6.5 and get half the benefits... But you would be much better off with a 6.5, 4L80E and new transfer case. While the older transmission that you have is OK, without overdrive it is painful on the highway. But for a budget and to get a bit more power, sure: drop in the...

    Transmission Upgrade Questions

A manual body would allow (force) you to do all the gear shifts yourself, but no other changes woudl be needed. There's a but in all of this, in that the few that I know who have tried them are unhappy, as they (the shift pattern) are backwards to what is expected, and are somewhat difficult to...

    Display colors or style?

Incredible... My signature is BEING CHANGED by the board!!! WTF? It says "(And I can't read *signatures* well..." but what is written in my profile is "(And I can't read *posts* well..." I REALLY HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE put the WRONG words in my mouth. auaauaauaauaauaaua Geeze guys, is there ANY...

    Display colors or style?

That's not really a viable option because it affects all other web sites. It's unfortunate that the color scheme was implemented, it violates one of the basic rules of web design (insufficient contrast between background and text), and equally unfortunate that they appear to have disabled the...

    M101A2 24 Volt to 12 Volt Conversion

That is the 'jumper' cable connector. Allows connecting two vehicles together to quickly start one with a dead set of batteries. What I'm doing with my M200 trailer is just getting a 7 ft 'pigtail' with the seven pin round RV type connector on it, and using either bullet or getting some...

    Display colors or style?

Is there a way to change the color (style?) of the forum display? The contrast between the darker background and the colored characters is too low for me to be able to comfortably read it. Many forums allow a couple of different styles, but I don't see that option here.

    24 bolt wheels?

They are showing up on eBay from time to time. Expensive, look really cool. But, I'm not sure what the advantage is, and it's a big enough PITA to remove the 12 that are on the standard wheel, let alone 24! :-P

    Transmission Upgrade Questions

If you are not looking for 'correct' parts, the civilian setup for the NA in 94/95 (and some later years) would work just fine. You need a TCM (computer) to do the shifting. Aftermarket ones are expensive, but stock GM ones can be gotten cheap if you search. A harness, some sensors (TPS, temp...

need some help on a 15 kw

With my (perhaps limited) experience, I'd guess your injection pump is failing. I'd double check to be sure it is getting fuel, and if you can confirm that it has a good flow, the IP is likely the next suspect.
