I posted in "5 ton" when I should of posted on this thread:
Added a bumper and mud flaps this past week......LED lighting to come in the next couple of weeks.
Exactly!! I have a '91 Mustang GT I refurbished (with a "little" extra under the hood). Kids these day drive tuned nitro powered toyota's and the like......you know, with stove pipes for mufflers. I enjoy reminding these import tuners what American Muscle looks like, sounds like......and...
All guys need diesel powered, all wheel drive vehicles. Though anything Kaiser or AmGeneral has yet to be matched in the cool factor. When I see "off-roading" vehicles on the road now, I ask myself: "I wonder if that can haul 5 tons, climb a 45.....and do it with McDonalds deep fryer oil..?"...
Worked on the M817 over the past few days adding a highway height compliant fender and mud flaps. The fender mounts were bolted onto the truck using the available holes (I believe the holes are for winch rail extensions, worked well for this application) and then bolted the fender on (8" C...
Thank you for sharing the link. I've been to a lot of Museum's and there is nothing that compares to the USAF Museum.
If you've never been there, the B-29 "Bockscar" is on display..... and there is nothing like being that close to history that changed the world.
Excellent news!!! After reading "This becomes effective immediately upon becoming law"..........potential time frame? I'm just about to register/license my M817 at 44k GVW ......and the type P plates are a bundle!!! Should I hold off?
Thanks for getting the site back up. When I read the "coward" bit e-mail, I immediately realized this is a hack.....for no one in here fits that bill (for who else would get a 20,000 Lb piece of iron up to 50 MPH....smiling ear to ear)
Bob
Outstanding illumination!!!! I'm adding some Grote LED's to the tail of my truck (along with the upgrade kit)........and now wondering if I should of drove to Ohio with a stack of C notes. Great job on your truck!
Nice dragster!!! All you need is a Deuce to make that the perfect "Man Fecta" picture - Fast Car, fast plane, and a big green machine. The F4 u when started up (I believe a 2800 cyclone radial or the like) is a sound to behold.
I took the CDL class B in IL a couple weeks ago. I borrowed a dump truck to take the test because of the air brake endorsement (vs. air over hydraulic) to eliminate any issues if I drove anything other than a HMV.
If you drive any combination vehicle with a trailer plated for more than...
Thanks gents. I'll seek that option out as a 150 mile radius is allowed with Farm plates (the most I would need.....unless I get crazy).....once WI allows Military vehicles on the roadway again.
Though, I rent the land to a local farmer (as it's my weekend home for my family) and without a...
I actually did. I asked the hypothetical question with the WI state police in Waukesha: "I'm on my farm and want to put some gravel down on my access road/driveway.....am I ok with farm plates?"
There statement: "It's a military vehicle, so no on that point......parades and service visits...
Thanks Sam and Wrecker.
As I'm an inquisitive person, I actually called IDOT and the WI state police along with the WI DMV before purchasing the M817. I asked alot of questions and had great conversations, though disheartening in what would be needed to license the truck and make it road...
IL is one of those states.....if it's over 26,000 GVW......it has to meet commercial standards (no matter the application) if you intend to use it other than parades, service visits. A Class B CDL is required.
I do have a class B CDL with the type II exemption from medical (personal use vs. commercial) and an air endorsement. I own a hobby farm with a 3/4 mile long driveway that is need of LOTS of gravel. I bought the truck "ready to go" for use on the farm/ going to the pit for gravel (how we all...
I've found a plethora of great advice in the forums for making my M817 a safer/legal truck for use in Illinois and Wisconsin. So far I've added/in process of mounting:
Safety Triangles
10LB ABC extinguisher (bought military issue mounting bracket for cab)
24V LED Grote lights (adding 5 to...
Got a chance to put the big boy to work today.......and it took all the Bobcat had to reach into the dump bed. Trucked the load around to the back side of our property through muddy fields......and the M817 didn't hesitate for a moment. Though I do know why they put "idiot" lights in modern...
