I Bought a 100 Year Old Army Trailer Today

So a quick search of that newspaper archive site showed ads based upon the one in the original post started showing up in California newspapers around October of 1921. Prices were $275 then eventually $200. It looks like an earlier ad with a different picture showed up in a Davenport, Iowa...

    Price Check on a M100

$400 is a great deal if it’s solid. The lunette itself is the same as on m416s (although some early m100s did have the thinner style) and will bolt up as long as they didn’t ruin the casting (which looks okay from the pic).

M936 Power Divider - Incredibly Stiff

Here are the manuals you want to read, you’re looking at the book for an earlier model truck. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/tms-for-the-939-series-trucks.79228/

What did you do to your trailer today.

I’m working on changing over an m416 jeep trailer to m416a1 specs lately. Since the surge brake is similar to the one on the m101a2 and a3 I figured it’d be different to install a crank up landing leg like on the m101a3 so I modified one to fit. On the left is an stock m101 series leg, in the...

Winch questions: Will 5-Ton fit a Deuce? Conversion? Etc.

Is the winch on the front or back of the truck?

Are these XLs 14.00-20 or 16.00-20?

    I’d say 14.00x20.

Difference between hydro and vacuum brake pedal assembly?

Sounds like you’re installing an NV4500, not an sm465? The later NV4500 chevy trucks have the internal slave setup which has no clearance issues. That’s what I have in m1028. The earlier NV4500 chevy trucks have the slave cylinder on the passenger side which I’ve also heard will have...

Difference between hydro and vacuum brake pedal assembly?

I have a pedal bracket in my m1028 from a hydraulic clutch, vacuum boost truck. I installed one in a CUCV blazer too. As I remember the pedal bracket has 2 mounting studs that need to be cut off, because they’re already on the booster side. Also the vacuum brake pedal was different so swap...

New to 5 ton what is the model of this one

Looks like an m925a1 to me. Maybe an m925 with a tire swap.

M101A3 Retractable Trailer Support (Jack) Maintenance

I just had one all apart to shorten/modify for a jeep trailer. It’s actually pretty straight forward once you get into it. Remove it from the trailer and there are two screws that hold the top cover on. Once that’s off you’ll need to knock out some pins and the bottom half will drop out...

    Odd M1028 bed

I’d think that’s when it was first registered, so probably around then unless someone waited to tag it.

    Odd M1028 bed

It’s just how they all show up in the system, nothing out of the ordinary. It’s not really a postal truck.

    Dunlop SP160 10 R 22.5

You could put it on 20” m35a2 wheels (lock ring style for tube type tires), they will sit further in though. Because of the axle width duals can be over the legal road width without oversize permits. I’d check for a more common 22.5 tire size and replace both if you’re not able to find 10r22.5s.

    Odd M1028 bed

They all had the turbo 400 so someone swapped in the 4 speed. With parts from a civilian chevy it could have a linkage for the clutch or the later hydraulic clutch. It’s not hard to make it look factory with the help of a donor truck.

    Odd M1028 bed

There was one in Maine with a similar bed but I don’t think it was a dropside. It’s not original at all.

    Gen 1 light stays on

That’s a good way to check it as long as it’s the original style isolated ground alternator.

    Gen 1 light stays on

I had the same problem with an alternator some years back. The light was always on but other than that it worked normally. The problem was in the alternator itself as it did the same thing in multiple trucks.

New to the site and military trucks!

Welcome to the site. A factory 5 ton dump truck with the 673 Mack would be an m51a1 model.

Just purchased a 1986 CUCV D30, 6.2L diesel for my son (first car).

Welcome to the site. I’d be looking at the glow plug relay itself, if you haven’t already. Maybe try tapping on it with the key on and see if it engages.
