    Rear Level Wind Servicing Tips

Felt washers form craft sheet. Making the felt washers: Cookie cutter for outside diameter, then the inside 'hole' was hand cut with scissors, by folding the washer in half and carefully following what looked like the approximate thickness. I did try a few by folding it into quarters, but...

    Rear Level Wind Servicing Tips

It's been a while, but I decided to finish the rear level wind rebuild.... Part one - Trolley wheels. Turned up "cookie cutter" for felt washers... Cut out 32 washers, that's 4 per original 1. I bought sheet felt from WallyWorld. Similarly any craft store. Use small hammer just like doing...

    Wrecker: Unseizing Boom Jacks

Update: Managed to get the second boom jack freed up - as much as the jacks and some blocking can achieve. The second one took a lot more heating - pretty much went up and down the whole tube - below red hot. This also burnt off a load if the cruddy paint too. I'll leave them overnight with...

    Wrecker: Unseizing Boom Jacks

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DC_Pmp6KPs&feature=youtu.be this is a very brief clip of the condensation popping out of the pin hole! It surprised me so I thought I'd try do the youtube thingey... if this can come out - it means that the unsiezing solution has a pathway in.

    Wrecker: Unseizing Boom Jacks

Top bracket finished - time to give it a go. After applying enough pressure to find the inefficiencies in the design/fab, with ensuing repair and strengthening, I cranked the jacks up then started to heat the outer tube, from top to bottom in a narrow strip. Add a little bashing - not enough...

    Wrecker: Unseizing Boom Jacks

Yup - this will be hung inside my shop - through trap door to loft, so that the jacks work vertically. I'll caulk the collet/collar so that I can pool penetrating oil whist the setup is left under pressure. Haven't ever tried the acetone/TQF but I'd like to. .............. Watch this space!

    Wrecker: Unseizing Boom Jacks

I am sure this is a common issue with a lot of wreckers - M62, M543, M246, M816, M819, M936 etc. They lay on their sides for years without being used - the lower one can often be semi submerged depending on the angle of the bed, debris daming rain water.. The close tolerance of the two tubes...

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

I am recreating a "typical"*** Australian Army M816 of the late '70's/early '80's and that is how they had them. I have been researching the differences for a few years now and have gotten a good handle on most of the differences. There were many basic changes that all of them had...

    M1000 HET Trailer Kingpin

I'll stand corrected, but I do not think the M1000 trailer has the option to change out the King Pin - unlike the M870 LET trailer. That trailer is only supposed to be towed by a HET - 3 1/2" fifth wheel. I'm guessing you are at prepurchase phase otherwise you'd see it's construction. That's...

NATO 12 pin plug: Amber Turn - Red Stop.

Using an old trailer plug for some tow lights. I need to have red stop lights and amber turn lights for my project. I didn't go with RV /Trailer 7 core wire as I only need 5 wire; Stop, Right, Left, Tail and Ground. This would be three phase Star [also called Wye] (3 ph Delta is only 4 wires)...
