Received this from Larry Fiandt. Should be of interest to many of you:
Bjorn--This is Larry Fiandt again, Look We're having the Gathering again at Fort Eustis Va.--Like to invite you and anyone you run with to attend and even bring any vehicles you'd like, I'll send info on lodging and a...
Installed two more temperature probes today to measure the effect of the water cooled intake manifold.
Drilled a 1/16 inch dia hole at the cylinder #5 intake (see image) and also a 1/16 inch dia hole in the intake manifold adapter.
Two thermocouple bead type probes were installed.
I also...
Question for you guys, who have made the engine switch from the multifuel to a more conventional engine; was there a change in fuel economy?
How many MPG's before and after the swap, that's the question.
The multifuel engine uses a combustion process, which is more controlled than the...
Used homemade hand soap today for the first time. We made a batch some time ago from the glycerine biodiesel byproduct.
The soap bars are not very hard, but work great, lots of lather.
Drops of lavender oil was added to give the soap an aroma.
About 10% of each batch of biodiesel is glycerine...
Tinkered some more with the MEP-18 genset received from Kenny and at about 12:45 today, it fired up and ran beautifully until shut down 1/2 hour later.
Not as noisy as I had thought at least not without loading the generator.
Adjusted the frequency to 60Hz, voltage to 120 and measured...
The front tire wear on the deuce is greatly reduced when the rear drive axle is removed. After 9,000 plus miles on my front tires, there is still plenty of tread (about 15/32 left). The outsides are showing some cupping and the tires are due to be remounted with the current inside out.
The down...
It's probably common knowledge that the NDCC tires develop flat spot just sitting overnight, especially when it's cold.
Driving off after a night at a truck stop means trying to get up to highway speed right after leaving the parking area. Usually it takes 5 to 10 minutes for the roughness to...
Getting the deuce ready for another Florida trip. If everything goes as planned I'll be leaving Saturday morning, Feb 11th for a visit at Kenny's.
May be able to lend him a hand on his wrecker project, demonstrate the biodiesel process, pick up a 10KW genset among other things. Bring him a 60...
Clinto asked for info on this.
The images are from the TM 9-2320-211-10 (1977), M39 series trucks.
It's a smaller size manual and the pictures are not well detailed.
Messed around with the door this morning (between the rain showers).
I need new guides, but am wondering about the cost of guides vs cost of a working replacement door. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,
This is a series of images missing from the original "Body-Cargo Pipeline Construction" thread.
Starting with a picture of the bed as found by Desert Rat late 2004.
I drove my deuce to Greenville, KY, (March 7-9, 2005) and picked it up.
Some parts were sold to Chris (steelsoldiers) on the way...
Questions; what are the differences, do they use the same regulator? They are both 10KW gensets, is it just a matter of age/upgrade? I have the manuals for the SF unit and would like to know if they apply to the MEP too.
Thanks,
Why do you consider the service brake system on the M35 deuce marginal?
The air over hydraulic system provides close to 2,000 psi of pressure to the wheel cylinders. The brake drums weigh about 80lb/ea and can each dissipate up to 12 KW of heat.
I have never tried to lock them up, but probably...
Thanks to a shipment from Kenny (recovry4x4), I now have more clearance/marker ligths to work with. The M756 pipeline truck has a bunch of them!
Thank you Kenny, I owe you again! The primary filter looks good too, I'll install it tomorrow. Let me know what the shipping charges are and I'll...
I think this is an interesting subject, since we seem to have a special attachment to the vintage multifuel powered 6x6.
The aquisition cost back in 1968 was $98,000 according to DRMO when I got my M49A2C.
Quality is one factor, reiability and there is something about the mulifuel engine that...
Images show how the HIAB crane was found mounted on the Navy International Loadstar back in 1993. Paid $3,900 for it then.
A closeup of the tag on the Loadstar dash and the crane used to remove the tank from the M49A2C.
Paid $3,300 for the M49A2c in 1995, sold the tank for $1,000. Sold the...
Hi,
I'm modifying my dual fuel tank system and will need one more primary filter with mounting bracket.
If any of you have a take-off in servicable condition, please let me know and how much you will want for it.
Thanks,
This is the description that appers when "googleing" steelsoldiers(dot)com:
Perhaps a better description would be in order. :)
