We had lots of help with keeping this engine rolling. I got it opened up in my shop in 2013 and a pile of boys walked me through a pre-oil process. Catman and the MVPA were partly responsible for creating a pump type pesticide sprayer to push oil through the laughing galleries. Prior to my...
Thanks Rustystud, that description was similar to climbing in the master cylinder and jogging through the tubes all the way to the wheel cylinders. That is some serious pressure so I can appreciate how good the brakes work whenever the troops would haul a full load in the Early Deuce. I barely...
You're probably the guy that can answer this question for me then. The Early Deuces, G749 series of trucks seem to begin leaking at the wheel cylinders, premature of scheduled maintenance. Mine have been good for 5 years, except for one WC on the bottom left rear, but I'm real light on the...
G749 Crate engine/ transmission installation
This poor boy thought he'd need to spend the next couple of weekSS tearing down an engine and transmiSSion. Instead he drove out of the G749 farm with a NOS engine and transmission today so I'm going to need a bit of help coming up with a caption for...
G749 Pervertnation
One of the big goals for the G749 Preservation Farm was getting 3 trucks moving for a historical convoy. It's turning out that I no longer need to foot that bill myself. This ol' 55 belongs to a friend and was real close to joining Goose and Gizmo in an upcoming parade. The...
Everyone on the crew had a ton of experience getting smashed to pieces in the past so we decided to let this trip go smooth. We are a bit Pre-paranoid so we did follow some basic safety principles.
A) Don't put your pinky where ya wouldn't put your winky.
B) Tractor operator put his hands in...
G749 Parts Preservation
The PO was truly the master of preservation with all the parts, keeping most items in the original packages and keeping them dry, yet moist and delicious.
The pricing not only made it possible, it made it affordable to take the long drive and get the prizes in the safe...
Cold Lake G749 Recovery
We're going to keep the story of the 52' on its own page so we can tell the previous owner's (PO) back-story as we get it.
This truck was built by family members after they acquired it from Southern Alberta. Having a winch and needing power for the dump-box, they added...
Not that I'm OCD or rather CDO with the letters properly arranged as they should be.......but I'm a fan of finding....or asking for modification, on a "searchable title name" that the kids will be able to find for the next 500 years.
I've gone through all 5 pages of the "Steel Soldiers Early...
G749 parts and parts and parts
That was our smoke, sorry about that, darn quader kids smokin' out the USA. The winds have been blowing to the S.E. and the Sat maps showed it almost in Florida. Here's a vid from inside the City today...
Tcv
I just work more and sleep less, gives a guy more time and money.:recovry4x4:
One item we're all going to need someday is this control valve. We just pulled this one off a new crate transmission to try on a 55 M135 that has been giving us a hard time. The boys re-built the original valve...
Double PTO G749 NOS parts Preservation
Can't thank you enough for making it all happen Peter. So many things had to fall into place for this to work, it's a little overwhelming. It's been a long day so we'll just give up a departing pic for now.
We're 270 miles south with 100 miles of farm-land between us and the Boreal Forest. Grandpa was brilliant to settle on the prairies and not up there. I've been updating here http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?28798-How-Cold-Hot-is-it-Where-You-Live/page591
Most of the populated areas...
Goose doesn't like to get her hands dirty anymore so it's good to have friends that do, http://www.totaloffroadexperience.com/ https://www.facebook.com/Xtreme-Offroad-115567381893023/
Those are NOS flaps, still have primer on them and one came with a bracket. If you check the steel part of...
G749 front band adjustment
Just as the book says! When the truck is running, in gear, wheels chocked, E-brake adjusted and engaged, the pin can be seen.
It's a dirty little spot to get into so being 'on-grid' with a pressure washer would be a good start. This is how it looks before a soak in...
M-35 a2 ambulance
Finding a picture of the M-35a2 dressed like this M135 would be a bonus for both of us. I hope someone comes up with something for you. I found this pic in the old Civil Defence EMO literature.
Hydromatic front band adjustment
Who has played with their hydromatic,,,,, front band adjustment?????
The way I'm reading it, the 'measurement' must be done with the truck running......in gear.
It says so on the bottom of page 352 and at the top of page 354 it doesn't say......put truck in...
I added the question mark so we don't miss that question stuff next time..lol..
The Midway Museum, the two Subs, one Russian, the paddle boat and the smelly boat have been visited twice by moi. You can't see everything the first time. If you hang with a Docent they will take you places on...
G749 Axle parts
....and here's another way which gives time to research other sources before putting them on the list. It'll be good to see the numbers Tom has put together.
This might be an updated outer seal which we haven't been able to source using the original number.
