I don't really need one in hand to copy if I have all the exact dimensions. ;)
Agreed. I won't say that ithew OP's design can't be made to work with further reinforcement, bracing, weight disbursement, etc. I mean anything can be made to work it's merely a matter of how well and how...
Yes, I followed that mess as it unfolded. Sean was attempting to make something fit that wasn't ever designed to fit. His utter failure was multi-fold (unproven hydraulic compressor not ever before used on a CAT/LMTV using a retrofitted bracket, etc). Interesting in concept but had fail...
Rgr all.
Not looking to go into production, but I've enough engineering background to build something this simple to spec. The specs for every hole tapped into a C7 is pretty well documented online. With a compressor in hand to make the other end, it's easy to get the other end spec'ed. What...
As I said, I get it.
Again, no question from me as to Tom's brackets being nice.
But in that same light I can support my local fab guy who made/makes bits for all my car/truck projects....or I can support someone like Tom....or make them myself.
Advantages/pros/cons to each, I suppose...
I get that.
But again, justifying what someone charges based on a dealership or one of the biggest ripoff scalpers in the surplus community isn't really a good basis for pricepoint, IMO.
I look to the Internet for what like products cost online and go from there.
Again, not knocking...
Yep. Some years ago I tried placing white LEDs in the lollypop lights on the back of one of my off road cars. Even in daylight you could see they were far weaker than the incandescent bulbs on the side we had not installed. Lesson learned but I never fully understood the "why". Thanks for...
I think the last part I purchased *anything* from an actual dealership (with their insane markups) was in the '80s.
That said, commercial/semi truck ac brackets have been priced around $80 for years since I started looking (increased to about $100 of late due to Brandon)...
Just curious if this one uses the same driver-side mounting location or if it slings off the passenger side.
I've seen both used on LMTVs (the later being quite common in civilian CAT engines).
He took a stock S280 and fabbed the external legs.
I subbed his channel because of the awesome content (and not because he panhandles for subs). <holds up cardboard sign:>"SUBSCRIBE 2 MY CHANNEL SO's I KAN GETZ THREE CENTZ CUZ I IZ POO!!!!!!!!" <----I hate beggers and panhandlers
;)
Personally I *much* prefer the system Neal came up with. And for long term stowage, it can be lowered (if you might worry about elements that might topple it when parked, like the 50mph winds we see often on this part of the coast). I love my M1079 but do miss the convenience of the flatbed...
The problem is they become sooooooooo expensive that they price themselves right out to the the range of the average persons with sights on an overland build. And material costs, shipping, etc have driven up components.. So what was a $10k empty box four years ago is now a $15K+ box (just a...
