    Curious old M49 fuel truck

They sure did !! It's my belief they started out with the clear/clear in the 1950's and a number of them changed to amber bulbs at a later date of course, but it wasn't a uniform thing in any of the units I was in or around.. By the mid-late 1980's all of the metal lamps that had still...

    Curious old M49 fuel truck

What I saw in the 70's-early-80's military as well as on my own oldest M-series trucks, the front lens choices seen were clear glass w/clear bulb, and clear glass w/yellow bulb, and amber glass w/clear bulb .. All three variations of the metal lights were used .. (aside of the normal...

HVAC advice - 10kw Heater kits and MEP803

If you mean metallic conduit, you are correct .. Here in the rural/ agricultural areas of Northeast US, Non-metallic conduit is found on services to about 50% of homes and a higher percentage at barns, garages, and small businesses. Metallic conduit is primarily found on most services to...

In tank fuel pump substitute for M35

Were you able to buy the fuel-rated hose per the foot? About 6yrs ago when i replaced the one in the M49A2C i called around and only one place had the hose on hand.. It only came as a 10ft coil . I feel severe residual monetary pain now that i mentioned it . IIRC it was around $100. o_O I...

In tank fuel pump substitute for M35

absolutely correct on all counts ! .. If a system isn't 100% tight, the in-tank pump helps the multispew crank a shorter amount of time after it has sat more than a few months, or a month, or a week or a day.. Depends on the degree of un-tight :D

HVAC advice - 10kw Heater kits and MEP803

Just a note of detail , the "F12" Bonding Bushing (aka "grounding bushing") is only required on concentric/eccentric knockouts when using metallic raceways, ie; steel or aluminum conduit During my years as a contractor occasionally tasked by mills to troubleshoot/repair, I had seen a few...

M809 battery box step cover too tall?

1; in active army and then VtNG 1970's into the 90's i did not see a plastic battery box until 2009 on one of a pair of M818's i hauled out of FIG Pa .. It's warped just enough to give a little bit of clearance trouble when replacing batteries if i don't slide out the box . (regular diesel...

M809 battery box step cover too tall?

I have two M809-series that came with the plastic boxes .. The cover hits when trying to slide them off horizontally, they have to be tipped a bit but they don't hit anything once they are fully on I have to ask if the boxes are pushed in as far as they should be, but knowing you i bet your...

    M816 Wrecker - General Questions

thanks. i forgot i even had visited that string, notching the hood cross brace and doing the valve cover mod . The only thing that would bother me about notching the brace is whether the hood would collapse under a couple feet or more of heavy wet snow , it would easily be in excess of a couple...

    303M HydraMatic rebuild

It may seem that way, but not a good deal for the sellers .. There's two reasons 1: Few people spend $ on MV's, old-school truck projects, and other hobbies during times of uncertainty 2: Decline of interest in pre-1985 MV's .. I had a fair construction/quarry/hobby client list until 2015...

    M816 Wrecker - General Questions

that sounds like a tuff truck with the walking beam, but depends on the brand.. I saw a 90's western star tear its Chalmers walking beam all to heck during a gypsum barge job.. Have a pic of that mess somewhere, with the wheels removed I don't recall the model of the only kenworth i drove in...

    M816 Wrecker - General Questions

As a bonafide (army) heavy motor transport-schooled long-term veteran 64C/88M, and later owner/OTR commercial operator of a number of M809-series (and commercial heavies) for a very long time, I can say the following with confidence ; 1: If you haven't already read threads elsewhere, you have...

    Found a gas powered wrecker

I see you said your truck has a different Holley on it than its original, and I'm not surprised that it still sucks a lot of gas and runs too rich, as does the Holley that came on that truck. As others mentioned, the Zenith supercede is way better and there will be noticeable fuel economy with...
