Looking at pics 2 and 3, this shouts for an air-lifted trailing third axle. What I mean is cut a normal spring off just behind the middle where the wheel is. Fix the front of the spring as close as possible without interfering with the tandem. Then put air bellows-springs on the backward end...
Servicemen/woman having served in Europe AND/OR US Army Engineers Corps
The official excuse for owning our M51A2, Truck, Dump, 6x6, is that I will make it into an exhibition on the US Army Engineers Corps in Europe during the Cold War.
Please, I need pics and stories about this. ANY members...
Update on my travel plans.
Almost time to bite the bullet and order the flight tickets; don't dare too wait much longer. Still waiting for a few answers, but I am afraid they will not change much. How it looks now, unless something better comes up last minute:
- Flying directly into Atlanta...
LAST CALL FOR PART OF EAST BLOCK VEHICLES
I still maybe can manage to get smaller parts or documentation of East Block MVs like Tatra's, Praga, OT-810 halftracks, tanks, bikes, etc to the Rally. But I would have to know TODAY so I can get them tomorrow or on Saturday. Don't need to make a...
At the Rally, I have to figure out what I really need to restore our M51A2 and then balance $$ and weight and repair priorities. I have a 50 lbs limit, everything over costs me $150.
What I would like is mentioned below. Please understand that I cannot take firm decisions yet as per the above...
OK, technical post.
I worked my butt off the last few weeks (good "getting into shape" exercises) helping to get the workshop of our son reorganized. Once ready and secured, he can work on his larger projects and I can store the M51 there and finally start working on it. Its almost ready...
GA Rally update on steering
GA Rally update.
Drove around a few blocks on the meadow with the truck. Free play is acceptable, one side turning OK but not great, other side turning really still feels like washboard. I tried to get off the steering wheel with a heavy duty puller but only managed...
I had not seen the post by zout that he's not coming. If this continues, most of the people I am flying over to see might be dropping out and I will be standing there alone scratching my head.
Rest of the GA Maffia, you have to fill in on the empty spots and stop more liquidation of attendance...
I had a lot of problems finding this thread back until Clinto send me the link. That is why I posted my remarks in the main thread. Probably should have put it here as bump before that. .
BUMP. Maybe we can make a video of this at the GA rally?
The link of ke5eua only shows five-speed shifting in a deuce, not 10 speed shifting in a 5-ton. I am especially ointerested in the full possibilities of the 5 speed combined with this particular low-high gear.
Before I forget, please help remind me to take this back!!!
Does somebody working a lot with 5-tons or Deuces or whatever American saves his/her old screws, bolts etc? Especially those for the door panels or dashboard and bolts for keeping the engine kill cable in place etc??? Or can you get...
Put some of this partly in other threads as well, hope the moderators will cut me some slack here (thanks).
I have a free baggage allowance of 50 Lbs including the suitcase or bag itself. Heavier between 50 and 70 lbs costs me another $150, an extra bag of 50 lbs costs me $200. So I have to...
I will be flying into the USA not earlier than Saturday and not later than Tuesday. Departure date is still completely free. I can still change my airport destination. Anybody needs to get an extra car to the rally or does not have time to drive it there themselves, let me know. Can be also be...
Something I want to discuss at the rally as well.
Did anybody ever modified the M51 dump hydraulic system to make it multifunctional?
Moving the pump and reservoir
On the M51, the hydraulic pump is driven by the rear PTO. It is connected to the subframe, same as the reservoir and the dump...
Keep me in the loop on this, ideally we should have some shots from both the drone and the ground video at the same spot more or less, so we can play around and fuse the material together later.
I will bring the video and the Nikon, but NO tripods. Anybody can take a stable tripod for the...
Could you do that on the Rally? I never managed that either (but my experience with those combo's is very limited) Few yards straight back I managed, but for all maneuvering I took the trailer "on the nose".
Wreckerman, that contraption would almost certainly be not legal in Europe. Fifth...
Anybody having a surplus 5-ton M5x-A2 air pack laying around? How much does that thing weighs? Mine is OK but I want to rebuild-restore it and put a second air-pack next to it to make a dual system. New is too expensive and I think that with help here locally a rebuilt should be easy. I am not...
Thanks for all the great replies and offers guys and galls. It must be clear that I don't come over just to spend some time with some old farts and youngsters on steroids driving around with old MVs. This I can do here as well.
Its clear that there are some pretty special good folks around on...
