I would hit it with the concrete bit, use a scraper or something to get rid of the flake paint/rust, spray on the rust treatment, prime those areas with self etching primer (Autozone, 12.00/can)
then spray.
It's water based, so easy prep/clean. I pressure wash my truck with a concrete bit the first time to blast any loose stuff off ,that REALLY worked on my M715:
Then, depending on if the primer/paint is still there (as it was on the M715) I will spray it with an airless sprayer from Lowes. No...
Believe it or not, when my 5 ton was desert tan, I took a chip to Lowes and had them color match it, then used house paint to touch up areas needing it, and it all blended perfectly.
All-
A FB friend sent me some found pics and was trying to figure out the Era.
They are definitely Marine Corps pics, and if I had to guess, I would say from Korea in the 50s.
Here's an old deuce, but for the life of me I cannot figure out which one, so I thought I'd throw it out.
And...
I have a complete rebuild thread HERE, in the mean time, I've decided to change her registration from a regular vehicle to Historic Military Vehicle, so in accordance with Louisiana law, "Dirty Gerty" had to come off of the hood, to be replaced by her VIN:
Of course, now my brain is...
Gerty has also been known to show up for car shows and benefits...
A local scout troop was having their derby car races at the same time/location as this car show and they voted on best vehicle, and presented me with a homemade scout trophy (which is one of my most favorite!)
We hooked her...
Then it was interior:
And exterior (wheels, tools fuel can etc)
Along the way I picked up a M1061A1 trailer from @fuzzytoaster and dovetailed it so I can haul the M715 and M37 (eventually) behind the 5 ton...
Then... cleanup, pressure washing (all of the green paint washed off woth a concrete bit!), then a LOT of paint...
Some tires came in along the way...
@G744 helped me out with some kick ass OG blinker/BO lights and brackets...
Added some front blinkers
And a new soft top...
