Yup just 1.25" NPT black iron coupler should thread up fine. Make sure to put a flexible joint somewhere in the exhaust, to isolate NVH from the machine to the exhaust system.
I am going off memory here, but I think this is one of those machines that has to have matched controls (cant mix Woodward and Libby). I am sure others more experienced in the platform will jump in.
I think the concern was that the rack might be bowed, because the metering pumps were popping out of the rack at shutdown. Could just be poor install too.
If you had power at the 120v outlet, the extended cranking shouldn't have done anything... The field was excited and the genhead was making power the whole time. Perhaps you got lucky and some corroded item found a path through it, but I don't think your problem is 'gone'.
