RE: Gen #2 Field Current Relay? & Where can I buy an ALT
There is an alt on Ebay right now going for $50 plus shipping. This is about what it cost me to rebuild my bad alt.
I have one of my cucvs for sale in the classifieds. It has rust but drives great. It has been my daily driver for over a year and I hope my other cucv drives as good as this one. I need to sell this one to get some parts for the other one...
RE: Gen #2 Field Current Relay? & Where can I buy an ALT
As Mike said it is pretty basic. Attach an ohm meter to the switched terminals and apply 12 volts across the other terminals. If it shows continuity when the 12 volts is applied and goes open with the 12 volts taken away then it should be...
When I called about some stuff a year ago they basically said they did not have time to get my stuff. I then took my business to Memphis. At that time they did not seem to want to do business. If they did not change their attitude I would think they would be out of business.
Check directly between the engine and the firewall. The main wire runs through this area and on my truck the insulation rubbed though on the rear pickup eye. When the wire made contact to ground on the mount it melted though the wire disconnecting it. A GI fixed it by just twisting and taping...
Some of the trucks had wood inside the pocket to raise up the bow height. The uprights are the same but they just put wood below them to raise them. You might check for that. I had to pull wood out of mine to get the bows to sit at the proper height.
I just got done watching the new episode of Eureka on the Sci Fi channel. At one point they entered an invisible shed. The shed was a chemical shelter complete with the steel door entryway. They did not show the outside because it was supposed to be invisible but the interior was immediately...
I can tell you that by the time your EUC clears it will probably be a couple of pounds lighter. A lot of people need parts and some get the euc cleared before you.
With all this work you have been doing I would just take the alts off and have them bench tested. Who ever you have test it make sure they know what the isolated ground is. If they do not know what your are talking about then take it to another place to test. If they hook it up like any other...
It should be on the driver's side going up toward the taillight from the bottom. Mine did not work right. Both my 85 and 84 used an older 83 plug that is round spade type connectors. The one that an 85 should have used was a later style gm square weather pac connector. I hope this helps.
The dash is good. I want to get it working right with a working light so I will chase down the diode. When I locate it I will post. The dash socket has no problems. I have already checked it. Thanks for the responses.
Joe,
Your passenger side rear leg does not look right. Mine does not poke out like that. There should be four bolts for every leg to the ring and it looks like your front leg only has two. It took me a while to figure out the exact set up that allowed the proper four bolts for leg. You might...
They will charge but not till you get the revs up. The alt will not energize until the engine is reved up without the light. I drive alot of stop and go so I need them to charge at or near idle too.
I am trying to track down the cause of no gen 2 light on one of my cucv's. The wiring diagram shows a diode and this is the only thing I have yet to check. The relay checks out and all the it is triggering properly. I really think the diode is the problem but where is the damn thing?
Thanks
Chuck
