My guess is the fuse box 30 amp fuse. Right side of fuse box 1/2 way up. that circuit is a hot spot for lighting issues. The brake lights are served off the same leg in the back of the fuse box. I recommend cutting the circuits and installing 2 in line fuses or a circuit breaker. Not a huge fan...
The doors also need hinge bushings. I am sure of that. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/1986-cucv-m1009-decade-after-being-wrecked.173878/page-11#lg=post-2161769&slide=1
I took a few pictures to show how to change the bronze door hinge/pin bushings. Good Luck. Make it happen. And adjusting...
It is fully adjustable at the rear hinges to hood area. It is a bit sensitive to slight adjustment alone. But with 3 people it can be adjusted perfect. the rubber stops up front and the striker assembly will also help get everything in alignment. But everything on the cab and body must be...
I have a large box of replacement parts to reassemble the snow plow Voodoo M1009. Lots of work but I don't need to complete the truck till the snow starts flying again. More later. Be Safe.
I looked in my stash of parts and found one speedometer head unit that was as close as possible to what mileage I had and went from there. Or don't worry about it at all. In PA old vehicles are exempt from mileage statements as they can not be confirmed accurate. I mean a 35 year-old vehicle...
Hood hinges are the same on all full size C K series trucks, cab chassis from 1981-1991. From 1988 on they made cab chassis in V R series. That is the newer body style. I have a lot of CUCV hood hinges and spring loaded hinges. They are FREE if you pay the shipping. Let me know. And yes K5...
Probably the speedo head unit is bad. That is my guess. I had some scream and go almost 1/2 way around the second time. Lubed the head unit on a few and replaced the speedo head on a few more. Common issue on old vehicles.
When you get a few minutes and you have nothing better to do just grab a few parts and install them on the CUCV. The front fender cab mount fillers were easy to install. It took me longer to find the correct fasteners to do the installation. I know these are missing on a lot of CUCV's but they...
OK last night as I waited for my helper on my barn project I took the time to remove another incorrect E brake cable and install the correct one. I have had this same issue in the past but seems that the COVID 19 has closed the reliable local shops for a while. They are open again. Thank you. 2...
OK. An update on the injection pump. I have never been in a rush. It is not my style. I do not like negativity and try and keep even keeled about delivery dates on items. It will be a month on Saturday June 6 that I removed the pump. I called and they are back logged. I can expect it in another...
I have several used CUCV columns for parts. Let me know if that interests you. The ones in the red square are attached to the housing on the back. I spent a considerable amount of time surgically dis assembling a steering column. May I suggest. Only a suggestion. Remove the entire column and lay...
That ground was on every C K series truck ever built. It is to ground anything that needs grounded. that is NOT a military only ground. The CUCV's are basically stripped down civilian trucks. The loaded civilian trucks had a few grounds snapped onto the protruding spades. Very nice place to...
I also had a PM asking me for the overall measurements of the rear M1009 cargo area. I took the measurements with the seat in the down position 41-42". I also measured the area to the cargo front floor drop. That would be the usable area with the seat in the folded position. I have no radio...
OK it was not a productive weekend for my CUCV M1009 project but it was a great weekend for barn repairs. I was up on the barn roof and someone called me and never called back. Restricted number. Maybe the CIA. They needed a coolant crossover manifold. I said I would look. I did and have a few...
I have a few blocks if you get in a bind. But I have pulled 2 engines that had similar starter bolt issues and put them on the engine stand and took them to a local welder/machine shop and they fixed them for me. Cost was $250. one time and $200. the next time. IMHO well worth it. I bought the...
