RE: piss poor
You keep asking; I'll keep 'splaining.
An old timer once told me the only stupid questions were the ones that didn't get asked.
Share the knowledge and experiences; I think the more people who have answers, the more chances you have of getting a problem solved.
Search is great--...
I suggest doing your homework BEFORE starting your conversion. Frame widths are a standard 34" but with tape measure and clip board in hand, take LOTS and LOTS of measurements. Check little details like which side your t-case drive flanges are on in relation to the input flanges on the axles...
RE: Legal issues with transporting "troops" in a D
The military gets a whole bunch of exceptions and exemptions because of who they are and what they do.
Just because the gumment gets to doesn't carry much water when you're discussing the finer points of vehicle code interpretation with an...
RE: Legal issues with transporting "troops" in a D
Plan on hearing about and addressing these issues; Seat belts and ROPS (roll-over protection system).
They'll want to know your passengers are protected in case of accident.
Might also keep you from a lot of future grief should something...
Damon,
Delicate, fragile little flower that I am; my feelings are very hurt by your post.
If you only took a minute to think about it, you'd know that comment about having to hide your silverware is both unfair and untrue.
I mean, have YOU ever tried to run with your pockets full of forks?
RE: wasps
I've found several nests under the folded edge of the bed sides or front fenders; they seem to be drawn to secluded areas with a lot of heat for larval development.
Do a search after dark with a flashlight. The colder the air temp the better; it and the night really slows them down...
Then the factory hinged set-up sure seems to be the better idea. Don't know how many times I've had the cable type feel like I'm being pitched under the rig.
I'm pretty sure they're durable.
Disposable often just means that components are welded, not bolted together. Major components are designed to be unit changeable-- i.e. old engine blows up, change out with new engine, throw old engine away. This cuts down on having a warehouse full of spare...
BigMike, it's been a long time since I had a mule but I'm thinking the the rims are one piece and can be run tubeless. That's a pretty small hole for an inner tube valve stem.
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Going through Water...
Get yourself some "hose barbs" (pipe thread on one end, the other end accepts push on rubber hose like an old carb fitting). Remove the axle vents and screw in the hose barbs. Run rubber hose from the hose barb to however high you want; frame...
Sherwin Williams will sell if you can handle the sticker shock. Much better prices out there if you shop around.
I got mine from Alfa Heaven and he was more than helpful with my phone in questions.
RE: Need some track
Barstow Truck Parts scraps out armor and may be a source to check out. Even shorter sections could be spliced together if all else fails.
The trick to driving it home is to take everything you could possibly need in order to tow it.
If you go prepared for a full-blown recovery operation, it's all but guaranteed that it'll start, run and drive flawlessly;
go assuming you'll drive it and it won't make it out of the front gate under...
The first turbos anybody out here played with were ex-diesel tractor pull-offs-- big and heavy, and slow responding.
I'm pretty sure one of the first advantages explored with the twin turbo set-up was the thinking that two small turbos would spool up faster than one big one on small displacement...
Kenny's right about the switches needing air to make them work.
Sounds like you already had the 3-lever switch in the brake light or serv. drive position in order to do your tests.
And yes to the last part of your question; Lift the unlock lever on the three-lever switch and turn the top lever...
Pre- and post-drives checks are always a good idea. Not just to catch problems but to make sure I've packed everything I'll need/want along the trip.
When a leak or break appears it get's immediate attention. Otherwise, whenever anything's torn down it gets new seals, gaskets, new fasteners (if...
If all else fails, the older style square nuts (stove bolt nuts, hay-bailer nuts, pump jack nuts) make pretty passable weld nuts. Put them in position, tack them on two sides, run a tap through to clean up the threads, and you're in business.
