FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

Yesterday, yet another grave digging session with the Summer SEE. On the way there the strainer had to be cleaned out. On the way back, in almost exactly the same place, one more cleaning. I suspect that the second one (pictured) was largely due to me stirring the crap in the tank up by putting...

I can't recall seeing a strainer in the tank on mine. But it might well have been blown off the pickup tube when I fought the fuel issues and used compressed air on the tank's outlet. On the other hand, I'm glad there isn't one - it's so much easier to clean out the strainer by the valve.

FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

Checked this morning, and I have three of each. At first I thought that maybe the HMMHs came with aluminum and the SEEs with steel tanks, but my "Summer SEE" has an aluminum tank. Either way, that's also the one which (still) requires a cleansing of the strainer every now and then, but I just...

I did (somewhat skeptically) add Seafoam to the oil in a 232 Six that had a ticking lifter, and which had been ticking for years. It got quiet.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Yeah, in an ideal world I'd replace all the gaskets and seals before putting that one back into service. I'll try to remember to try turning it a tiny bit today, just to satisfy my curiosity. If I remove the heads now, with my luck I wouldn't find the heads again when it came time to reassemble...

Bighorn, I've been wondering about the current health of a 350 I pulled out of a '76 GMC quite some time ago. It's now on standby for when/if the 6.2 in the M1008 gives up, but you're painting a grim picture here.

I don't see why towing/driving with different diameter tires would be so bad with a Gov-Lok. Sure, the spider gears get to turn a bit more than usual, but nothing compared to on vehicles with central axle disconnects in the front.

Using my SEE for real work

Well that was an easy enough fix. It's funny how alcohol can make things work better sometimes.

You could always lock the lever in 4WD position mechanically, then worry about why the air part doesn't work like it should later. And no, getting to it isn't all that easy, but maybe you can get a bungee cord in there.

Because bias tires have far stronger sidewalls, and as an added bonus also provide better conformability. Both very nice qualities for trail use.

That would be highly unusual. But I bet they were all radial tires.

Try trading it for a ratcheting wrench, or a ratchet and a socket?

I was getting stressed, too, Ahab, spending so much time trying to rescue them. Anyway, yes I did fill the water buffalo and used it to supply water for them. About 300 gallons, so far. That was part of why it all took so long. Three different vehicles and one trailer involved. I wouldn't care...

Okay, two out of three done. And these little buggers better live a long, happy life. It took almost all day to get two of them moved.

Hooked up a 400-gallon auxiliary tank. With winter coming I don't want to worry about batteries and glow plugs, so now I can just leave the M1008 running. And while it is indeed a gravity feed, I have no idea why the computer insisted on turning the photo sideways.

Oh, it's only an attempt to save three small Junipers that would've been creamed anyway when I make a ditch repair. It'll probably take 10-12 trailer loads of dirt to fill in this mini version of the Grand Canyon, then I can dig a new ditch and install a culvert with a "waterfall". That's what I...

My M1009 came with a humvee transmission drain pan?

You had to install a vacuum transducer? That sucks.

    Pun not intended, right?

Dug up more rocks today, away from the river. Had to create a new ditch and made new homes for three trees I'll try transplanting. The latter will surely fail, but at least I got to dig more holes.

Ah, yes. That photo brings back some memories, too.
