But wsucougar, I thought you were joining us with your 109? What a dissappointment that we won't get to see all the good work you've done on it, and to see how it does on an epic journey. And for the tender backside, that's what foam cushions and local masseuses are for.
Stan, are there...
If you want good CB performance from a military antenna, here's a combination that works really well. Get an AB-15 base, or a MP-65-b base. Both of those have the correct connectors for a common CB coax cable with PL-259 connectors to mate with. For antenna sections you want 2 longs and a short...
You might try searching through Amazon.com. I did and found a nice set of wiper motors. Here's a link. They are very simple to wire up. Bring in a fused hot wire for power, and a ground wire and you're done. They match the same mounting holes that the vacuum wipers used. And they come in...
Well, I followed your mix of 2 long and one short antenna, on an MP-65B base, and it works fine. I got a 1.2:1 SWR reading, so I'm good to go!
One issue I'm having though that you could help with is this, the CB and all are on my Electro-Willys M38. Since it's all electric drive...
Google Earth is a great tool to look this whole route over. Really give you a feel for the countryside.
Yes. It's unpaved from Watson Lake up to the Arctic Circle and back to Dawson YK. That's about 1100 - 1200 miles of gravel and maybe a little mud if it rains. Then there's the Hatcher...
Thanks again Stan. I think these links will be really helpful to each one of us coming north from the mainland US. That's a good idea you have on the fuel cards. As the refuel planner I'll look into that idea some more and see if we can make that work for us. Sounds like it should. And save...
Thanks Stan, we appreciate the offer. I wonder if you can make it happen for us up in Dawson Creek? For the guys going up the west coast, they may be able to connect with you and take advantage. I think most of us will be going north through Alberta before turning west into the Peace River...
I did a little looking for fuel prices up in Canada. I found what I was looking for. And got a bit of a surprise. The Yukon Territorial Government does weekly surveys for fuel prices. Here's the web site. Yukon Retail Fuel Prices - Energy, Mines, and Resources - Government of Yukon This...
Yeah, just sprinkle a little pepper on your clothes while you're there. The bears have been sprayed so many times with bear spray, that even smelling a hint of pepper and they'll turn tail and run! :jumpin: And if you find the one that hasn't been sprayed yet, ... well ..., you'll taste better...
Yup. Check out this link, page 3. It's in bright red.

This is the official registration form for the convoy.
hey Cat Man, if you bring the dozer, do you suppose I could try a little reacreational bulldozing??
pvtjorge, design a fold out deck on top of the trailer that would allow you to put a free-standing backpack tent on top of the deck. I've see a few of those and they seem to...
david, we look forward to having you join us! And bring your fishing gear. I'm bring my fly rods and planning on buying licenses for BC, YT, and AK. There's some great grayling fishing in the small streams up there, and with an inflatable raft I may try some lake fishing too, since we'll be...
Advertising, registration materials, professional photographer during convoy and to compile the DVD, deposits to hold facilities open for the convoy, promotional materials, mailings to folks who do not have computers, and whatever other costs come up to make this event successful.
A budget has...
Thank you Paul. That is the message that we on the leadership team are also sharing with those interested in going. We're simply putting a more positive spin on it.
This reflects on you as a disgruntled former MVPA member. Since you are no longer a member, why would you be concerned about...
For Paul and David,
Hunting sounds like fun, and bringing a long gun into Canada is easy, but the convoy rules specify NO WEAPONS of any kind. So hunting trips in the evening are out. I'd recommend deciding between the convoy, or the hunting trip Dave, but it won't be both.
pvtjorge,
do...
I've got to say that I'm enjoying most of the discussion in this thread. Very interesting to see what's important to some individuals and not at all to others. I plan to go, and I'm going to drive the whole route. I'll do it because I can, because my M38 can, because that country up there is...
I would recommend using an electric hoist instead of a winch to lift the axle. Hoists usually have a brake/catch/cog that allows them to hold the weight. Winches usually don't. And you may want to have a safety chain set up to hold the axle up so the winch/hoist/hydrolic cylinder don't carry...
OPCON,
I have an MP-65 antenna base and 3 MS pieces (116,117,118). I'd like to be able to use these as a CB antenna on my M38. It sounds like what you did is use the base plus a MS-116, and a MS-117, and an AB-23 to get to a 106" whip.
Did you test this setup with a MS-118 in place of the...
Actually I'm looking at a propane generator. They will operate even when they are moving and bouncing since the entire fuel system is pressurized. Gas generators often have carbs which may or may not function well when they are moving. Diesel gens are injected so they also will work when moving...
