Hard cold starts in hot weather.

Did you ever have the intake off and check for throttle shaft leaks. Is there anywhere wet. It could be dropping the fuel prime. But yes a rebuilt injection pumps can be the cure for many ailments. Sounds like you are heading in the right direction. But getting the injection pump rebuilt is a...

    Driving through water

I was in ridiculously deep mud and water at Trucks Gone Wild in Yankee Lake Ohio. Everything was well after I washed it up and I had no water in any of the axles or crankcase. The worst ting was the mud in the alternators. They both needed rebuilt and the starter was taken apart and gone over...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Lets just say I made a gallant effort to stay focused on the M1009 project. When what to my wondering eyes should appear. But a 1971 Mercedes Benz 220 diesel with a fuel leak and a locked right front caliper. Word must travel that this guy works on anything. Send me your broken and rusting and...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Very nice. I have had the rear output seal kick me in the butt a few times. Now I just use a vise grips clamp it on the flange and strike the vise grips with the hammer. Done. That easy. Looks good under there. I would expect nothing less.

    6.2L fuel leak

I have had and seen delivery nozzles that leaked externally. I changed them and the leak ended. Are all the nozzle nuts tight? And yes the rear 2 nozzles have caps on the back return fittings. Also the return lines running back the frame can rust/corrode/burn thru. I seen a few that were burnt...

left ignition on now GP light does not light up

Hard to tell. I would start ny pulling the glow plugs and getting an eye ball on them. Bench test them and just 1 or 2 can cause a start issue. That is where I would start. Also check if the power is getting thru the glow plug solenoid on the firewall to the glow plugs when the wait light is on...

    6.2L fuel leak

The small hole under the delivery nozzle is where the glow plug is installed. I doubt it is leaking there. But there are many places that can leak. Finding the leak is the real challenge. Fixing the leak will be child's play. Good Luck. Be Safe.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Last night was a step in the right direction. The left inner fender apron is installed, the rear tailgate jam is sanded and seam sealed at the bottom corners. That was the only spots on the gate that had come loose. I guess sitting out in the weather 10 years has that effect. I flipped the gate...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I kept true to my word and finished sanding the underside of the hood. I flipped the hood over and closely examined the outer surface. Still perfect shape. For now I will set it aside and move onto getting the tailgate jam sanded/scuffed and painted. That should be fairly easy because the inside...

glow plug relay chatters on Disconnect?

I had an M1009 that done it for years. It actually played a twanging musical note right before it disconnected. Never had a trouble with it starting and it just stopped doing it one day. If it don't start I would get right on it.

CUCV Snow Plow Trucks and Spreaders

None of the local scrappers wanted the truck because of the oil in the differentail and transmission. Other big scrap yards wanted a full title with a letterhead from the company saying it was OK to scrap. A local salvage yard took it as scrap and set it aside when I talked to him. It all worked...
