I had heard that the manufacturer stopped making them - or at least stopped making most sizes. However, I did come across this link. I have not contacted them to see if they are actually available, or if this is just a listing that has not been updated...
They are some great trucks. I'm curious about your 6 MPG gas mileage.
When I had the 230 engine in my M37, was routinely getting 9+ MPG, sometimes even a hair over 10, doing mostly 35-40 MPH driving on rural roads and in local villages.
With the freshly rebuild 251 that is in there now, I...
I read a discussion comparing NOS coils and the Chinese chrome ones. I showed 6 ohms as typical for the primary on the NOS coils. On the chrome chinese coils, and the newer black aftermarket coils from Debella Jeep, the primary is closer to 12 ohms.
Im running one of the Debella coils on my M37...
If you are going to spend the money for a coil, might as well get one that fits so you have a spare ready to go in case you ever need it. If you have the stock 24V system with the waterproof distributor, Debella Jeep sells one that will fit for $55. It's a step up from the chome ones that are on...
There are some good threads on setting the float in the carb for these trucks in the technical Group on the G741 forum. Not sur eif that is your issue, but thought I'd mention it just in case.
If you are not already on them, you might want to check out the G741 Forum and the Dodge M37/M43 FaceBook Group. I see trucks listed for sale there form time to time, as well as a lot of helpful advice being offered.
You will probably want some printed technical manuals if you do end up buying...
If you are not familiar with the trucks, you may want to have someone who knows them come with you to do a pre-buy iinspection on the trucks. There are some known problem areas for corrosion, and other things to look for.
How deeply you need to look at the engine and drive train depends on...
White Oak is a really good choice. It's strong, and significantly more rot resistant than Red Oak. Both can be really eye-catching, if you have good wood to work with.
The toothed periphery washers are no longer a stocked item at Fastenal.
When they did have them the part numbers were:
Size / Fastenal# / Manufactuer #
5/16" / 10229-11704 / DSTP-0312-16-02
3/8" / 10229-11705 / DSTP-0375-16-01
Here's a catalog page from a company that shows some with sizes up...
Thanks for that link. I see they also make 24V to 13.8V converters. 13.8 V simulates a running vehicle, where 12V on the nose would be closer to a fairly deeply discharged battery. I'm not sure if that makes much difference in the real world - perhaps losing just bit of range on CB radio...
When bought my M37, it had a 720 watt (60 amp) DC to DC converter in it to handle some of the loads in the hybrid 12/24V system that was in i at the time. I've not realy done any in-depth searches, but I'm curious where you found a 120 Amp DC-DC converter. I've never come across one that large...
I thought I read somewhere that Fastenal (or some other major supply chain - maybe Graingers?) had some sizes, but that some sizes are no longer made. Unfortunately, I can;t remember where I read that, or how reliable the information was.
For those who are looking, you can find Peter's coils at Peter Debella Jeep Parts. From his home page, look under Truck Catalogs, then click "Dodge 3/4 M37". The coil current shows up on the main M37 page, but if that ends up getting replaced, just go to the M37 Electrical section.
