The axles, ratios, and wheel-base are the biggest differences in towing capacity. The bumpers and the way they are mounted are different from each other too.
The engine, trans, and T-case are the same, and they can handle towing more than 1500lbs.
The 1k and 1500lb capacities are for off-road...
Do what you want. Any way you go, I'm sure it will look cool.
The digital/dual-tex looks cool.
You could a combo of both. Here's a digital tiger stripe pattern.
Tiger Stripe Camouflage goes Digital
I think a normal (not digital) tiger strip pattern would be an extremely time consuming paint...
I've had a few vehicles that were like that...Including a little on my old M1008.
I think it's just a combo of skin oils, oils/glue/resin from the steering wheel construction braking down after years of touching, sun, wear, and temperature changes.
Steering wheel covers work...or a new...
Back when I had my M1008 I took the mufflers off and put 18-20" cherybomb glasspacks on it (whatever fits in the stock location). Didn't notice too much added sound at idle, and it wasn't much louder when you got on it. The only thing you could hear was a loud cracking/snapping noise. I didn't...
I adjusted my shifter linkages. Solved 4 problems at once. The shifter wasn't lined up right. The speedo jumped around. The odometer didn't work. And the trans wasn't shifting right.
:jumpin:
Yes, what DH said. All Blazers military or civilian had 15" wheels.
And CUCVnut, anytime you take metal off of something it inherently becomes weaker. Maybe a lot, maybe a little. But brake calipers need to be able to hold over 1000 pounds of pressure, so not something you wanna chance.
I'm...
My 1009 does the same thing. The seals are brand new, and they are big and puffy. My doors are aligned right. They don't move up and down or anything. And once I slam the doors they are tightly latched.
I don't have any striker bushings. I might have to try some new ones.
You might run into some problems finding some.
16.5" inch rims are pretty rare as it is, and almost all stock, cheap 16.5" rims are 8 lug.
Might find some on Craigslist.
You might also be able to find some offroad wheel companies that sell some. I think Pro Comp has some steel wheels they sell...
All CUCV's have the single sealed beam (5"x7") headlights with the parking lights below them. Various civilian Chevy trucks had dual sealed beam (4x6) headlights with parking lights behind the grille (I think they were used on higher trim level trucks).
I made a cold start video (it was on Tuesday, coldest day so far this winter).
It was 12°F (-11°C) and the truck wasn't plugged in.
And here's a video after it dropped back to normal idle, after about 4-5 minutes.
What are your plans for the truck? Just wanna make it more driveable? Do you wanna turn it into a heavy-duty trail rig, or a good streetable truck that will see trails sometimes?
For just a driver, without spending a huge load of money or time,
I'd find a K10/K20/Suburban/Blazer with Dana 44 or...
At 65-75mph in a stock M1009 with stock 30-31" tires you should be between 2100-2600rpm. Which isn't that high for a 6.2. They redline around 3500-3600rpm.
Diesels are low-revving engines. So if they are going at 2500 rpm they sound like they are running high. Not like a gasser running at...
Yup to what both said.
It's not just a "get out your sockets and wrenches" swap.
You need to get the bearings installed right, shimming, backlash, gear mesh, bolt torque, and everything perfect when you do ring and pinion work otherwise it will vibrate, be noisy and clunky, and things could...
What brand?
As far as I can tell the general consensus on SS is AC Delco 60G GP's. And bypassing the 24 volt resistor on the fire wall, thereby making the glow plug system 12 volt.
That's what I have in mine, it takes about 15-20 sec. to cycle the plugs...and it works well.
How much faster do...
Where are you located in WI?
I am going down to take a look at an M1009 I found on CL on the southside of Milwaukee on Sunday.
I'm going down to look for some random interior parts and tires. He's parting it out, most of the body is stripped. But it has a complete engine with 80,XXX k mi. The...
I second and third what DH said. Just do it. It's so easy it's stupid. Even if you totally remove the resistor and all the wiring it still only takes about 10 minutes.
I have AC 60G's in mine with the bypassed resistor, and an ECH GP109 relay and it starts great. Takes between 10-15 seconds to...
