Thanks again guys, Still no luck.
There is no wafer in the distributer. There are no marks in the pulley or anywhere on the front of the engine to use a light.
I have ordered the parts to rebuild the distributer. But I have already had it all apart and it and the points, etc, are just like...
Thanks for yer opinion. I'm sure thats what it needs in the long run.
For now, I just need to make sure its going to start.
Am I correct in that the distributer will ONLY GO IN ONE WAY????
Even so, I think I have the timing correct. With #1 plug out when I hold my thumb over the cylinder, when...
Gee I feel like an idiot having to come on here every time I have trouble. But I guess thats what its for.
Anyway, my old Jeep, titled a 42 but it aint? I'm pretty sure its a 48? But that dont matter, same old 4 cyl engine.
It had sat for years but I got it started right up two years ago and...
AH!!
So thats maybe why mine seems to not be going down. Perhaps I dont have enough in it yet to reach that hole so I could notice it??
I will check it out first chance I gets.
Thanks so much.
With the actual filter removed from the canister in my olf jeep, I poured a little kerosene in the canister in order to be cleaning things up.
My wuestion is, the kerosene did not go down the hose at the bottom. I even took the hose off and it is wide open, yet the keroesene dont go away???
How...
OK guys, here I go again? Thanks for your patience.
With the filter removed from the canister I poured about a cup of kerosene in it to clean it out also, thinking it would simply drain thru the hose and down into the timing chain cover.
BUT NO!!! Of course not. So I removed the hose...
Thats why I dont want to put much effort into it. If it is full of rust it wont matter what I do.
My thought on the kerosene is just that if I mix it all around inside it might lift some moisture and then it would naturally go to the bottom and drain out when I pull the plug. Might cut a...
I understand completely, I think?
I would use regular modern detergent oil if it were a recently rebuilt, or even clean looking inside engine. But it has been many years, I dont know how many, since this engine was apart. And it certainly does not look very clean inside.
So all my teachings in...
Hi guys, and thanks for the input.
I am trying to get an old jeep running. Not a real restoration, so to speak.
It is titled 42 or 43, but I think it is actually a 27 or so.
It is not an actual military model, but basically the same.
Has the little four cylinder flat head.
A couple years ago I...
I was having trouble finding non detergent motor oil. Everething that clearly says "NON DETERGENT", also says mineral oil and not for gasoline engines???
I local parts store has "BRAD PENN" Premium SAE 30. It dont say either way but the parts store syas it is Non Detergent. Cept' they aint...
Thanks to all for the kind words
I was just sending that photo to show the amount of work and TLC we put into this truck. These pics show my Son driving with my Dad, and other local vets, in better days. Ben was recently home from a year in Iraq.
It was may Dad's labor of love.
Before we...
OK, now had we the hard road test. Of course it leaves allot to be desired, but I can stop it purty reasonable. We have a local event next weekend and the truck will not have to leave town, so I think we'll be just fine for the parade. It all ahppens no more than a three mile round trip from...

Just finished the air pac by-pass experiment.
There is no one around here to help so I had to draft my wife and her artificial knee to help me bleed, after installing a by-pass line. Bleed it all two times, some fittings 3 or 4 times and got out all the air I could. Also, kept adjusting...
Something to report, I think?
I was pretty much convinced that I had a bad rubber line at the drivers front wheel, and either a master cyl or air pac problem.
So just thisevening I did my "test" again in that I built up my air and applied the brakes. As usual, the front wheel lock up tite, to...
As always, thanks to all.
I will try that number right away. And I will try and find a brake pressure gauge.
Now, please give me yer opinions on this thought. Since I now have rebuilt or replaced all the wheel cylinders and they should all be working well, what if I would by-pass the airpac...
Hi everyone,
I am still battleing these breaks.
Am trying to find phone number for "Niagra Military" or maybe "Niagra Surplus"??
Not sure of the name. Its where I got the front wheel cylinders from this spring.
I got the name / number from someone on here.
I am embarrassed to so that I cannot...
Hi ya'all,
I was able to find this place a few months back, and get the new wheel cylinders.
Now I am having a problem with them and need to contact these guys.
For the life of me, I cannot find any contact info on line. Does anyone have a phone number??
If I remember correctly, they do not...
I have adjusted the linkage. There is play in it and I believe it is returning the entire distance, I mentioned in an earlier entry that , with the lid off the master cyl, when I depress the pedal the fluid goes down and when pedal is released the fluid level comes back up, Would that not...
