I personally don't have the experience with it, but I found this when I was looking at one.
As I understand it, the 805 can be reconfigured to run single phase. I don't know the specifics, but I believe it looses capacity/output when doing so.
Eventually, you start making up uses to justify them. Haha. Used mine as a mobile work platform today. I had loaned out my pole saw and needed to clear some limbs.
After I get the hydraulics for the bed going, I'll haul some gravel, etc. But mostly it's just a toy to drive around.
If you take a look at the rear suspension setup, you will see what they are talking about. Has a walking beam type of setup. Needs to be converted to a traditional leaf spring and shackle. Typically they shift the axle to line up with the new bed they use, usually off an m105 trailer.
My 5 ton has the multifuel and it has a big yellow sticker on one of the fuel filters stating something about "diesel only, fdc has been bypassed". Some brakleen took some of the wording off so you can't read it, or I would have gotten you a picture.
Nice! I did a parade last week, but the generator for the lights quit just as we started moving out of the staging area. What are you using as a power source?
My understanding is that you can't put m51 sheetmetAL on an m817 because the engine is longer. Unless, I suppose, if they also swapped in the multifuel.
