Something Leaking behind front driver side tire

Nothing wrong with tasting most of that stuff, either. Brake fluid (DOT3 is different from DOT5), coolant, hub oil/gear lube, grease, all smell different, have different textures you can feel and taste different. Not going to kill you, may save some time sometime.

    Truck won't start

Yeah, battery's dead Well, this has been instructive. Several back-channel email messages (thanks, all) about batteries, testers, blankets, all led to this: I called my local NAPA store and was surprised to find the Optima battery WAS in stock. It’s not cheap. But in for a penny, in for a...

    Adding Reverse Lights

had I only known... turns out I have exactly the right switch/bushing. One less worry. Now to figure out how to install the thing with the least amount of time/trouble and knuckle busting. Wiring I can do, got the connectors, wire, crimper, it’ll be fun.

    Adding Reverse Lights

Thanks for reviving this post, and for this information. I recently - couple months back - bought one of those switches with the intention of plugging it into my shifter and promptly set it aside. I don't recall now if it had the bushing or not. Details, details. Need to look at it when I...

Welcome to the club. And the madness.

    Truck won't start

Well, I had a fair idea of how to go about it, and the hive mind was helpful and kind. Yeah, one battery's toast. Replaced it with a somewhat smaller battery and truck cranks right up. Called Amazon, told 'em battery's dead, they refunded the money. Don't want battery back. "Hazardous...

    Truck won't start

Done. Don't know why I hadn't thought of buying one of those years ago. Thanks.

    Truck won't start

1 - interestingly, positive terminals were loose. clamps and cable bolts. Pretty weird. Ground terminals solid. Went over all connections, even cinched up nuts on solenoid a bit. Cleaned terminals - naphtha, acetone - wire brushed, reassembled. No joy. 2 - Paperclip trick does same...

    Truck won't start

I recall several batteries dying like this in the past, digging through the abandoned car lot on post for a battery that wasn’t frozen and would hold a charge. If these were Toyota batteries I’d’ve immediately thought one/both were toast. Haven’t had one last over two years yet. Now GM’s...

    Truck won't start

Engine WAS starting w/cold, just didn’t like all the rattling/banging/crashing, figure what’s a couple hours of heat going to hurt, and the heater blows warm(er) air faster. 1 - Neutral start switch. I know where it lives, and where it’s wired (I recently removed, disassembled, lubed...

    Truck won't start

Thanks. That thought HAD crossed my mind. The logistics of getting them out and off to a place to get tested ran up against an errand and chore list that left the truck out in the cold, so to speak.

    Truck won't start

Baby it's COLD outside. Have freeze plug heater. Couple of Optima batteries, little gray Power Distribution box and monitor says both batteries are fine. Put 'em on charger and green light on charger came on in about 1/2 hour. Turn key, no wait light (block heater's been on a few hours)...

Ran out of fuel on a HMMWV

Short answer: yes. Longer answer: Sorry. Working past few days (8am to 9pm plus commute time), took a look this AM. Looks like this: IIRC, and the best I can see under the metal plate, the rubber seal is pretty much held in place by the cap and is hollow inside. There's no o-ring/seal...

    Block Heating ... How long?

Since basic training (Ft. Lost in the Woods, Misery, Spring-summer 1977) I've said that typing was the most useful class I ever took in high school. Day two or three my drill sergeant asked if anyone could type and - yeah, I know, my dad, a WW2 vet pounded it into my head "NEVER VOLUNTEER" - I...

    Block Heating ... How long?

Fairly tales? Or Faery tails? Of Fae I sing. Think Planck's length and Planck's time and anything beyond that is immeasurable and irrelevant; infinite is meaningless. Except for stupidity. Even Einstein thought THAT was probably infinite.

Connection below windshield frame; what’s it for?

Of course, you could remove it/them, but that would lessen the chance you'd bark your knuckles closing the hood and where's the challenge/fun in THAT?

LMTV Alternator Disaster, engine now catastophic

Just carry spares. Like an entire spare drivetrain/ECMs/radiator/tires. Isn't that what flatbeds are for?;-)

LMTV Alternator Disaster, engine now catastophic

Man! If it weren't for bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all, it seems from where I'm sitting, about to pull my HMMWV outta the garage for a spin with my dog as I've been promising for a week (headcold, work, haven't done much of anything else). Following this tale of woe and many...

    Turbo kit for a 6.2?

That's funny. When I was still on active duty, we'd just fill 'er up and go. I've always been a fanatic about calculating my personal auto (and motorcycle) gas mileage going back to when I first started driving around 1974. I asked the guy I bought my truck from (Decodeme2 - RIP) about fuel...
