    Central FL M1031 project

The critical part being to reassemble it out of the truck and install it complete on chains with the cherry picker, because I've no faith in the ability to stay on axis trying to lower the block back into the mounts wearing a diaper made out of a tow strap. There's no telling how the wraps will...

    Central FL M1031 project

Having gone so far already, might as well yank the pan and carry on smartly. Just put it all back together on a stand and drop it back in fully assembled.

    Central FL M1031 project

Good question. Forgive me for talking out of my ass, but my best guess would be to use eye bolts threaded into the head stud holes, squared up to the four corners with a balance bar. I haven't hoisted a headless engine before, so don't take my word for it, but thread matching should be easy...

Bright side is you know everything's fine and you can paint everything prior to reassembly, which I sure wish I had done.

    What's your sulfur substitute?

Compared to stuff that's advertised for the purpose, that is a screaming deal. $250 cheaper than the drum I was looking at through Tractor Supply too. Thank you.

    Vortec 350 Swap

If the MPG doesn't get better, turn the AC on to console yourself.

Might as well paint your valve covers while you're in there.

    What's your sulfur substitute?

A quart of house brand chainsaw oil per about 20 gallons of fuel keeps my injector pump happy and the pump lets me know when the fuel gets too dry. Starts bogging and surging. Anybody running marine two stroke in their Stanadyne? Looking to buy cheap lubricity in bulk. Still haven't figured...

    Vortec 350 Swap

I bet that's nice. Using OE TH400? MPG report when you get it all sorted out.

Really, you've just got to use an abrasive that's harder than gasket material, but softer than the cylinder head. I'm not afraid to use steel bristle wire brushes on iron, but I wouldn't use a steel bristle rotary tool. Brass wheels wear out fast, but they shouldn't hurt anything. The DIY thing...

    You'll make it not flat.

Hope your heads aren't cracked. Use an HVAC inspection kit. Spray the mating surfaces with florescent penetrant dye and look at them under a black light with the glasses to make sure it's just the gasket. If they're not bad, you can resurface them at home with a heavy pane of glass covered in...

Did mine last year. Copper spray is the ticket. No more coolant "smoke".

Looks like a cheerful cartoon character. I always thought LED replacement bulbs clashed with the OEM turn signals, so I went looking for something to remedy that after I saw your photos this morning. Using the GM part number as a search reference, I came up with a discontinued Amazon listing. I...

    Is your starter bracket missing?

    CUCVRUS Repair Projects

Good to hear. I had checked obituaries.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I'd sure like to see a clip of that thing running. I can't imagine what a blown Detroit will sound like.

    Water pump replacement

If it were me, I'd exchange the pump and eat the shipping. The lessons best learned are the ones that sting.

    Water pump replacement

It's to my understanding that a reverse flow pump can be mounted on the NA 6.2. Otherwise, I don't know how people have managed to convert them to serpentine drive belts. For all the bits and pieces you'd need to do that swap, you'd be best served having a complete serpentine Detroit Diesel to...

Seems like this is turning into a build thread.

Home Depot sells 2.5 gallons of Rotella T4 for $40. They're delivering four Fram PH5 filters to my porch for $20, same day delivery. That makes for $18 oil changes. They give 10% off on everything for veterans in case anybody didn't know. Lowes too, but I don't use their website because it's a...
