There was an article in a newspaper recently that studied the affect of grain prices on food: the increase in cost due to grain was a few pennies on the dollar. How many boxes of corn flakes do you think that they make per bushel of corn? Farm commodities have been EXTREMELY undervalued for...
I don't think that this is correct. I have freewheeled backwards with the tranny in neutral and had it bound up. This is because the forward sprag is still engaged. In fact, just because you have the transmission in reverse doesn't mean the the reverse sprag is selected. The linkage operates...
I doubt that Memphis has any 'rights' to them. Even if it was patented, I don't see any reason why you couldn't build your own. The gears are simple enough. I bought the last REB kit from Memphis. They told me that they did not have plans to produce any more due to increasing cost (and...
I 'think' that it is a 200 series Clark. It is covered in my 50s to 60s Motors Manual. These manuals are readily available on ebay for $25 or at your local library. A really good manual for anyone who owns any type of vintage truck. It also has sections on timken axles and airpacks. Keep in...
I don't agree that they are junk. Folks have to realize that the sprags are constantly wearing. You can't fairly judge a design with a worn out component. The forward sprag wears first. You can most likely take two rear sprags (they interchange) to make one good assembly. It will be obvious...
Re: RE: Gasser Tune Up
I agree. I find it interesting to compare the Reo to it's contemporaries. For example, if you objectively compare the Reo to the 302 GMC engine you will realize that the 302's design was quite dated when it debuted in ~1952.
Why not a PTO driven hydraulic pump to operate your tow behind log splitter?
Or, use a rear transfer case PTO with driveshaft routed to the rear of the truck to operate farm equipment?
Matt, this is incorrect in my experience and mechanical understanding of the sprag transfercase. I have yet to see anyone give a technical explanation of why second gear starts are bad that doesn't violate the ACTUAL mechanical operation of said transfer case.
If you think that a sprag transfer case truck needs to start in first you need to review the operation of the transfer case reverse sprag engagement linkage. Or, you have a broken front sprag engagement spring in the front drive. This internal spring engages the forward direction sprag; not...
Which way do the cab bows fit? One end has a washer, the other does not? Does the washer end go to the front or rear. I have mine one way, by brother the other. We can't agree which is right.
There are a couple of ways that you can do this. You'll need an external pressurized source of oil. Here is what I did to prelube my Reo gas engine. I took a 302 gmc oil pump which can be spun with it's mating distributor, built a bracket to hold it in a pan of oil, used hose to route it...
I had always heard that the internals of the military hydramatic (rear reduction unit excluded) were the same as the standard gmc civilian truck. I had also heard that Cadillac internals could and have been used for rebuilding. Not true?
My wife's uncle tells me that the hydramatic was used...
It appears to be a dual reservoir master cylinder. How did you split up the brakes? Would the smaller unit work for a bobbed deuce with two fewer brake cylinders to activate?
Well, between crying kids, I didn't get a chance to finely craft that last post. I am happy that we both get what we want out of our deuces. I would like to hear if there is someone else who has done the 400 swap. I was worried that mine was an orphan.
