What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Hopefully I'm not breaking "da rules" here, but "can had cheap" like this one on fleabay: 152540186933 Now compare this with the price for a similar 24 volt winch with roughly the same capacity plus wiring; sure you might need to replace some of the hoses with the hydraulic model (I bought a...

    H1's are back, kinda sorta

Hmmm... must be part of what's driving the used tire prices UP lately.

power steering pump part#? 87' HMMWV with 6.2 non turbo

How's this holding up for you? Most of the websites I've seen (Kascar, HPG for example) post this warning with their pumps: IMPORTANT NOTE: GENUINE AM GENERAL. AFTERMARKET POWER STEERING PUMPS WILL NOT APPLY ENOUGH PRESSURE FOR THE HUMMER DUE TO THE COMBINATION OF THE HYDROBOOST SETUP AND...

    H1's are back, kinda sorta

Seems like the law makes an exemption for REPRODUCTIONS if they're over 25 years old. Maybe the current state of liability lawsuits - and added cost to the mfr. - makes selling in the US cost-prohibitive.

New member from PA - Philadelphia area

Be sure and take a trip to Easternsurplus. Ask for the nickel tour. You'll cry. I just went up a month ago to pick up a new/used Transfer case and the stuff they have there is amazing. Say hello to Bill. Oh, and welcome to the madness.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Saturday, May 6 I removed the parking brake and shifter "box". Rubber was a little dry on both. I got a "new" style parking brake lever - latching type - installed with some help from my son who hadn't used any air tools yet so it was a "bonding" experience. Getting everything OUT? No...

    TM Covering Transmission/T-Case Installation?

About to plug and play myself here (swapping 218 to 242), just doing some things like new brake (locking) lever, shifter clean/lube/boot, gas tank seals/etc, was wondering about sealant myself )between TC and transmission output flange. Somewhere I read "any black oil resistant silicone" (or...

Front suspension sag, 10k half shafts

So's to dazzle oncoming drivers with the visage of our MVs and not the glare of the headlights.

    Voltmeter gauge not working

Either the meter's bad, or - and this is a longshot but a possibility if there's a circuit breaker upstream - your meter may be shorting out. I've read somewhere on this board about the metal frame retainers causing some problems. Don't know exactly how but pull the meter, or just the frame...

    Voltmeter gauge not working

real easy to do with a light bulb and some wire.

    Voltmeter gauge not working

Or connect a 9v battery to it directly. That'll tell you RFN if it's the meter or the wiring harness or something else up stream. VOM might not give easily interpreted results. Got data on normal resistance?

the real cost of owning a HMMWV

To address the OP's first question: "I am thinking about getting a HMMWV, from auction, and would appreciate any information owners might share (like in the deuce sticky), or links to pertinent threads. and, if nothing else, would you do it again? how did it work out long term? getting parts...

the real cost of owning a HMMWV

I'm of the "don't ask, don't tell" school of hobby costs here. I know how much I have in it and what I hope to do with it in the future and what it's doing for me now. I like tinkering, fixing things, working with my hands, it's why I chose the career field I'm in. Hobbies rarely become ways...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

You're welcome. Pulled these out of the recycling. Dimensions are approximate, and you need to round/bevel the bottom of the rear plate to fit as well as beveling the top of it, and the door I wound up taking off about an 1/8". YMMV. PS: I'm "sick" of having to futz around with camera...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Um, if I can dig 'em out of the recycling. Not sure they're necessary. Eyeball the images I posted, and you can make them yourself. Templates I made out of cardboard. Basically a rectangle for the back (you could make it wider), I wanted space on the side for a speaker, radio antenna switch...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Finally got around to completing a glovebox of my own design. Made up some cardboard templates for 1/8" aluminum, did some fitting, assembly, measuring, drilling, put cup holders on the former radio deck, also drilled location for a fan - then ordered a second one for the passenger side. Also...

    highback driver seat install

I put those plans/pictures on a laser copier at work, one figure at a time per 8-1/2x11 page, pumping up the contrast/density settings until I could actually read it. STILL took me a while to figure out the 3.25" number. SAME issue with the commander's seat cutting on the battery box frame. I...

    highback driver seat install

I used the screws. Thought about using rivets, then used the screws. The kit I got had "extra" rivets, and TWO bags of the 8-32 screws/nuts, but NO allen screws. If you had enough rivets long enough to fit through both plates (inside floor and bottom backer) plus floor panel, go for it. I'd...
