NEVER ground L3!!!! It is a live terminal! Your ground is L Zero regardless of hook up. If you want 120/240 simply hook up L one and L three and send ground and neutral to L zero and you have house power.

If there were no shims, you need no shims. The shims go with the engine block, not the IP. (This assumes the previous "mechanic" did not remove shims from the block.) Of the 13 engines I've toyed with so far, only 2 had any shims, so they are not common, in my opinion.

Head is 20-25 cents a pound whole here. The gen head is classified as an electric motor unless you retrieve the copper windings and sell them separately as scrap copper. I did it with two of my parts units. Salvaging the copper is a PITA.
