PRC-128 (PRC68 Type Radios) External Power Setup

There are lots of specific details on the mentioned website PRC68.com, but ill give my opinions.. Here is a nice chart defining the differences in the PRC-68--PRC-128 radios PRC-68 Family of Radios 1) What was it designed for I was in the Army and used all three radios in *real* military...

PRC-128 (PRC68 Type Radios) External Power Setup

since there really isn't a forum about military radios per-se... (nothing searchable, only "discussion" groups... [which is so 1995] ) .. I wanted to document this project for the masses, 1) because its cool 2) i like to hear myself talk 3) my therapist says its best for my marriage... :-) I...

Installing SINCGARS RT-1439/VRC in M35A3 deuce

not if the VIC "main power" is in "INT Only", if you switch it to "Norm" you are correct it requires power on the radio.. Switch the vic to "int" and it runs fine..

Installing SINCGARS RT-1439/VRC in M35A3 deuce

yea, the two MX-6707 probably look sharp on the truck... hook the R442 to one and the RT524 to the other... then you have something more than a flagpole on the truck :-) its dual use now.. use whichever antenna port on the R442 is convenient, they are both electrically the same.

Installing SINCGARS RT-1439/VRC in M35A3 deuce

The R442 usually is connected to the AB-15/gr antenna, The is a base the the popular MS-116, MS-117, MS-118 antenna elements... its for receive only.. you can however use an extra MX-6707+antenna like the RT524, it will work fine but not "spec". The multiple BNC antenna connectors are...

Installing SINCGARS RT-1439/VRC in M35A3 deuce

Just FYI.. you should not need to power the AM-1780 with its own power if you are running a MT-1029, (with or without the radio) the AM-1780 gets its power from the CX4723 cable... from the radio, the AM-1780 "Installation switch" (slotted no dial on bottom right) should be in "OTHER" (center...

Ham Radio Operators / Steel Soldiers

Thats a 6meter (30-75 mHz) antenna, i have used mine with many different radio sets including ham grade 6 meter gear and military, RT524, R442, PRC25, PRC77 it is essentially a vertical coax dipole.. you will need to manually rotate the tuner on the base to the ham bands to use it with ham gear.

    rt-524 hisses

I think that cable is shorted or something, that shouldn't have affected that... One thing also that can cause that is if the xmode plug is loose, I've seen them unscrew apart and not maintain connection. Also if the jbox is connected, they have caused me problems in the past, although all...

Very slight miss while pulling hills

I have a rather picky question, but I'd like to get to the bottom before I'm out in the middle of nowhere and there is a real problem... I'm quite lucky that my m37 which I've had under a year runs quite well. When we acquired it directly from the state, all that was required to get it running...

    refinishing a PRC-77

i built my cabinet from plywood, then added the vacuum and filtration... if you add a good vacuum you will get more productivity, and remember, many of the paints and stuff you blast off are very bad for your esp military stuff... I have two cabinets one large with Aluminum Oxide, and a smaller...

It will be perfect there and look great! Don't forget the ground clamp around the antanna connector to the base.. ( a worm clamp with ground strap on it bolted to the base, clamp is around the pl239 Connector adaptor)

    VIC 1 in the M37

If you make them 4-5 feet your fine.. Most military vehicles have standard locations, and jeeps and m37 have them on either side.. The only real concern is loading up The R442 with a high power RT524 too close on the same channel.. Some purist Zealots will start arguing about load affects...

    VIC 1 in the M37

thanks, this looks to be the best solution to the problem, this vhf radio pulls 27A at 12 volts, and 110 watts of RF. Its a hoss. the big one is the only choice, plus these things have a tendency to "grow".

    VIC 1 in the M37

I called around a bit the overwhelming advice is that if your doing occasional use of the 12volt stuff, your gonna be fine tagging one battery, if you intend to really use anything on 12v you need to get the 24->12volt reducer. to this point, my 12volt use has been limited since i havent yet...
