Soni (M920 on here) is pretty busy this time of year so he wont be on here for a while til business slows down in the fall. He has done a great job on his M920. Not sure how long or how much it cost him though.
good luck on the venture.
here ya go:

I went to search, then advanced search, then selected 5 ton forum and search words were "transfer case"
it was on about the third page in.
If you shift from reverse to first and don't hear the hiss thunk sound, then the case is probably in neutral which means it will not send power to the front axle. Chris (steelsoldiers on here) has a great thread about taking the air valves off of the transmission and cleaning them. They "tell"...
thanks Unclemikey. Shoot me a pm whenever you want to come down. I should have the fleet all assembled by the end of Sept hopefully. My wrecker is still over at Soni's place in Chama and my other M54A2 is up in Trinidad, hopefully coming home this month.
Is your wrecker an M816? Then there is no fuel pump in the tank and you are more than likely sucking air through a leak in the fuel line somewhere ( probably the selector valve rubber lines).
The Cummins engines have not been made in a long time therefor parts are kinda hard to come by if you have a major meltdown. The filters are over the counter. They are large displacement engines so just dont over rev the engine. One issue is the PCB - protective control box - search on here...
Everyone -
Sorry to say but I have to cancel this get together. We are having some difficulties here at home so we are not able to host the meet and great at this time.
I apologize if this causes any problems for anyone.
Maybe next year...........aua
detroit
If you look up a member on here by the name of JDToumanian ( I think thats how its spelled), he put a Detroit in a M52 tractor which has the same front sheet metal as your deuce. Not sure which Detroit it was, but he might have some tips for you.
I traded for a M54A2 in Trinidad CO. It does not run right now. You would need a winch or something to get it on a trailer (RGN or lowboy preferred since there is no dock that I know of close by).
It rolls and steers fine. I have a towbar if someone would want to try and tow it back for me...
Well I know I bought a M54A2 a few years ago, many years after they were replaced by the M809 series and the 900 series trucks. They will pop up every so often.
