I just looked at my 818 and it is a 1/2 chain and hook. the chain is an alloy L8 rated at 12k in my Campbell book. hook is rated the same.
these ratings are with a design factor of 4 to 1. WLL would be 16k if it had the 3 to 1 factor.

I think the ratings are messed up somehow.
the block that comes with the deuce is rated at 10k. if the winch is rated at 10k why use the block? you can still only pull 10 k with it because of the rating.

I have 3 sets of spades. I used one on the back of a deuce once. put the balls on the rear shackles and used a 2 inch strap under the bottom of both bumperettes to hold them in place. I then hooked my wrecker to it and pulled. spades worked great and moved less than I thought they would.
