I made up a box to keep the push rods and rockers in order. I wash them 1 at a time so I will be able to retain the order. The head gaskets looked good. But after setting 10 years I didn't know that. I owned this m1009 since 1995. It has 3300 miles on it when I purchased it.
I kept busy despite the rainy weather. I was able to get a lot of dirty work done while it was in the low 70's. I was happy with what I found. The head gaskets looked good but I would never have known unless I looked. Very little moisture issues.
Well if you are old enough to know this saying you know how I feel today.
"Time to make the Donuts" I had my entire house remodeled completely back in 2004. Today the spigot outside was leaking. I said to my wife no problem. Rick the plumber at your service. I went in the basement and dug all...
Never think of it as work. Think of it as your hobby. Some guys sit and watch ball games. I sit and watch rust disappear and machines put back to useful pieces. Many people waste a lot of time and money doing less with more. They key is to make more with less and like doing it. Have a Great Day...
I just use a piece of wire in case any of the components fail. The solenoid/relay on the fire wall at the master cylinder is what normally fails on my vehicles. Not often but I has happened. Jump across count to 10 and hit it. Good Luck. I hope it all works out for you. I am liking driving the...
The water temperature sensor is in the left drivers side head up front. Make sure you do NOT have a glow plug wire hooked to the temperature sensor. I seen this before. The wires are both green. In stock you can not hook up the glow plug wire to the sensor but when you cut the stock 3/16" spades...
30 seconds on either day. Possibly longer in below freezing. Put a circuit card back in the vehicle and let the system work as designed. So easy a caveman could do it.
Both. But I have other interests and I like change hobbies every once in a while. I am bored with this one. I have lots of projects that need finished and am looking forward to getting them done. I have some nice automotive art deco I am going to do and add to my barn. I am collecting things all...
I have a few fronts and rears. They will be up for sale soon. I am having a sit down and relax sale and selling everything. Soon. But California. Can do. Have a Great Day. 3 More M1009's and that's it. Done. Final Editions.
They are both basically the same Saginaw units. What upgrade would that be? Put rack and pinion electric steering on from a 2014 - 2018 Silverado then you have a different steering system. I am being nice not a wise guy. But really you are comparing apples to apples with the same basic parts...
On the subject of cooling. I have had more then 1 CUCV that was an issue with heating up. One for sure had bad heads that were cracked. The cracks were not allowing the oil and coolant mixture but were allowing heat build up. Of course the resolution was another set of heads and new head...
I picked up the 6.2 heads today. All new valves , springs , keepers, pre chambers. It only cost a few dollars more to do them right. A little hard to change things when they are back on the engine. Do it right the first time. It's a simple task. Still need to work on my axle but wanted to get my...

Been there done that and have many/all the frame brackets you need. Let me know what you need. Even have a nice M1008 cab with solid floors/rockers. That was easy.\...
At 1630 today it was 104* out in the sun according to the thermometer on the barn. I stayed in and cleaned parts. I ventured out to take one rotor/ hub apart and cleaned up the knuckles a bit. I went out for a ride and came back called it quits. New springs and my outside work bench. Tomorrow I...
Today I picked up 4 new stock leaf springs for my M1009.
2 DAY22 - 402 $162.50 front springs $325.00
2 DAY22 - 403 $177.92 rear springs $355.84
$680.84 total
I have the U bolts, Front & Rear Spring plates are powder coated, new shackles...
The bearings look good. The 4 inch lift kit steer arm is the worst part. That's gone with the scrap. I will be digging out a parts axle for the left knuckle. Just a word to the wise for M1009 owners. If you still have the original ball joints they are dry and worn out at this point. The nylon in...
Never use this axle pin lock bolt over. Replace it every time. I sanded and cleaned the rear axle housing and then I painted it. I was making great progress and decided to start the front axle. I have that stripped down as well. I need to send the front axle out to get front axle seals installed...
You have to start somewhere. I figured the rear axle will be the first place. It is a fairly new crate axle I ran in the bush a few years back. The brakes are like new and the axles look good. I little moisture was on the center carrier but next to nothing on the gears. I will clean it up paint...
Yesterday I sprayed down the entire M1009 Crown of Thorns and used a 3M white scratch pad to wash and scrub the entire truck. I am putting it up for sale and moving on to another project. Looked really good after all that old dead oxidized paint was washed off. Great truck and great memories...
The mood has hit me. I am caught up enough on the lawns and other equipment to whip into the M1009. I will begin by doing what ever comes first and is the easiest to set up. Axles come to mind. And then the engine. Goal is to have axles on stands and engine down to long block assembly. Sounds...
