Couple of items:
Buy all of the transducers from CAT - oil pressure, atmospheric pressure, and boost pressure. Both my oil and boost transducers failed - oil pressure messes with the gauge and idiot light - boost pressure transducer failure puts you in limp mode and the truck will struggle to...
Absolutely do the ECO hubs before driving home. That would be on the very top of my list. 3 extra MPG and engine, transmission, and driveshaft longevity.
A1R's like this already have headliners (even on the turret cover), sprayed on insulation in the cab interior walls, and insulation under the dog-house. As I said they don't really need much help in these areas - not as much as older trucks. It's not where my focus would be for a drive home.
Right on! I'm glad a member scored that one! Saw it on Facebook and advised the seller on condition and value, etc. looks like a score. Myself and @Third From Texas have that exact same truck. So you will make three on this forum! It's a select club. What's your truck serial number? Mine and...
Find a used FMTV wheel from a surplus dismantler. The alternatives are costly unless you want a Chinese Dorman unit for a semi tractor. Smaller and cheaper construction and doesn't fit the aesthetic at all.
I wouldn't personally bother. But that's me. When you say "better" what do you mean exactly? My factory wheel has not failed to perform steering wheel duties admirably nor have I heard of any catastrophic failures, explosions, fires, or horrible disfigurement caused by any failures of same...
Military crate engines come with many of the accessories, etc for the vehicle they are intended to go into and they are sometimes differently configured than civilian engines for sure. The M-ATV engine would come with M-ATV accessories and bracketry and much of that has to be swapped out for the...
The A0 circuit breakers were an older generation ATO/ATC size breaker that's kinda crappy after ~30 years. The A1R uses ATM Mini size breakers that I haven't seen any failures with. But I pieced together an assortment of replacements to keep in my truck anyway.
The 3126 and C7 are almost the same engine. And in the ways it matters for an engine swap they are almost identical. Such that it would take very little effort to swap one for the other. The wiring is setup so that the engine and it's ECM are a self-contained unit and the chassis side connection...
The tire's load rating is at 100 psi according to the sidewalls on my 2022 MV/T's
But I prefer not to subsidize my dentist's kid's college fund. I find that I tend to run the 55 psi spec daily around town and switch to the 81 psi spec for high speed, longer distance travel.
CTIS is great. Push...
Oh yeah I saw that. Fortunately the A1R's have much more reliable circuit breakers than the older trucks. I purchased spares (
Bussman) of every size in my panels plus there are unused breakers that can be repurposed.
But for other stuff like habitat circuits - if you are going to use fuses...
I doubt it would fit and getting any CAT dealer to even agree to look at your engine swapped Army truck is unlikely. The truck dealers don't want to touch them because of the EPA, and the power equipment dealers don't want to touch them because it's in a truck. And if you did use a C9 from a...
I would get a M-ATV 370 HP C7 crate engine when one shows up in the surplus market again.
The issues I've seen with the 3126:
1. Engine oil pump's have problems with the idler design and at some point they changed the pump from a gear pump to a trochoid pump. Some pumps have a ball bearing for...
The electronic engines of course output tach through the J1939 for diag (such as the stall test) and the CAT ECM has two available high idle speed settings - one of which is used by the factory momentary rocker for PTO/warmup operation (set to 1350 RPM). In addition the cruise control accel and...
The Niehoff alts use a different hinge mount spec. The ear distance (on the 260) is 5.5", and the backside of the front ear is 3" behind the back of the drive pulley.
It's not that hard to one-off fabricate a mount. Some 1/4" steel plate, and a bit of heavy-wall tubing for the hinge bolt. Some...
No the Brazos was in the BAE era of FMTV's which was several years after the C7 was standardized. The Cummins has full diesel emissions systems including DEF. I think they are all round 2012 models. They only made like 50 of them.
The civilian Brazos had the under-powered Cummins. The military FMTV's built by BAE have the CAT C7. And The A1P2's are also still being produced with C7's.
I'm in the same camp as several other seasoned FMTV veterans as well as yourself - I rank the FMTV engines with the 3126b at the bottom of the list. C7 is most desirable, 3116 is reliable but showing its age, lower performance, and more maintenance intensive, and then 3126b as the least...
