The diagnostics are in the TM. The condensed version is the only big thing could be the controller, and if it is powering up and switching it is probably not the controller. Other the that it is all basic. Checking continuity in harness, voltage and resistance at various sensors, and look for...
Just to follow up in case someone turns this up in a search: The shank on the pintle hook on an M939 series is 2.75 in diameter the one on an M915 series truck is 1.75 in diameter.
Bought a M931A2 a few weeks ago at El Paso. I hired a friend of mine to retrieve it from there to where he is working, then wife and I went there for a visit, she brought pickup and trailer home by the route we took out with some other items we needed to transport, and I brought the truck via a...
what is your high idle speed set at? ours would run about 63 mph.
the ones i just bought have A/C!
we have a couple drivers (including my wife) who think the allison is a major selling point.
Here in Kansas we of course never weigh more then 85,500, but with the low gearing they handle...
That looks great, gpcpilot. We have had one for thee years. I bought kind of rough the first time, so it ended up getting parted and I recently purchased a number of very nice rebuilds. I might have to paint one up nice after seeing how good yours looks.
I am not completely familiar with the rules, and they vary depending on the program an asset is obtained through, but most of the more recent programs allow the receiving agency to own the asset free and clear after a specified period of time under specified conditions. At that time they may...
If you are looking for a truck like that, it was dirt cheap considering miles and setup. Winch tractors are never cheap, and then if you are looking for a 6wd the pool practically dries up. I've seen 30 year old winch tractors sell for ten grand in average condition with mechanical problems...
Thanks. The length is what I was concerned about. Actually only need 3 on one truck, axles are plentiful and gross weights are higher in the states involved. The 915 we have only weighs about 18450 if it's low on fuel and not covered in mud I think I can get enough misc off of the ones that...

So do a lot of big trucking companies, but that doesn't necessarily mean it takes.
Can anyone tell me if the pintle hitch on an M931A2 is the same as the one on an M915A1? I have a drawbar style hitch to fit in place of the pintle hook on the 915 and I would like to take it along so I can pick up an implement on the way home with a 931 I recently bought. I need to know if...
The military feels they are save at 45 with the run of the mill driver who is unfamiliar with air brakes and trucks in general. With a driver who is familiar with driving a truck it's not really any different then any similar truck, assuming good repair.
Have a runs with jump M931A2 at Bliss that needs to come toward south east Kansas if anyone has a spot for it on a load. I have contacts a lot of places throughout KS and OK that could unload and hold until I get there. I guess PM if you have something to offer. Unsure of all the rules so...
Dextron is an SAE 10 weight oil. Universal Tractor Fluid (ie, hydraulic/transmission oil) is generally SAE 20 weight. In a 600 series transmission, Allison calls for SAE 10 in light duty, SAE 20 in severe duty. If you are driving a service truck around on the highway, Dextron is correct. If...
M915A1 is insured just like all of our other trucks. Somewhere around $180 twice a year for liability. Don't understand why anyone would even consider full coverage on a truck that is not worth any more then these are.
I drive the M915a1 just like I drive any of our other semis, except I don't have to shift.
FWIW, it is our policy for operators to avoid running into or over things regardless what truck or other machine they may be driving.
You realize that for a single use, something less then hyper critical application, you can determine torque by length of lever and weight of the guy hanging on lever, right? IE, use a 3' wrench and a 200 lb guy, and when he's off the ground the bolt is at 600 ft lbs. Just a helpful hint...I...
I just read through about half of this thread. All the negativity does not coincide with my experience. I have purchased a number of container trailers, an M915A1, a 3116 Caterpillar engine, a C7 Caterpillar engine, and two 8V92 Detroit Diesel engines from GL. The trailers came from...
