I wonder if the axle shafts for other, earlier 800-series 5 tons would fit. Any chance you have a length and spline count? If you are worried about gear oil spilling out, you could jack or drive that one tire up on a block, hopefully raising the bottom of the spindle above the fill hole on the...
I was doing a little light reading on these brakes recently, and I think I found a likely good candidate if someone was interested in doing a similar swap:

The Q plus brakes use a stamped sheet steel "spider" (their term for the...
Not quite. Since the entire leaf spring assembly is itself joined to the frame via a massive pivot (which is essentially a spindle, bearing, and hub arrangement), a large measure of articulation occurs with each individual spring assembly completely flat. Allow me to explore that word, "flat"...
I made a spare tire mounting plate for the deuce rim, complete with 4 lugs and round center plate (the water jetted center hole from the wheel centers I made), but never mounted it. Well, I should say, I was going to mount it, and then I sold all 3 vehicles with the 6 on 8.75" bolt pattern.
If...
My thoughts on HP and torque ratings on things like tcases and axles:
My main concern with all driveline componentry is with peak momentary torque ratings. You care about snapping shafts and gears and woodruff keys and twisting splines etc. You also need to think about, for instance, what your...
I know the feeling of the pointlessness of a 5 speed in an OTR truck. The frustration of pulling hills with effectively four forward gears was a a primary driver to scrap the first 3208 build I did and embark on a new build with a multi-range transmission, which is a much easier transmission to...
Here's a shot of the 6855 I put behind the 3208. Sorry, it's a flickr link, but hopefully it works for people here:

Sorry, late reader to the thread. Have you looked at agriculture pumps? Often, they are in 24v, made to pump nasty chemicals (methanol being an unexpectedly corrosive liquid), and aren't that expensive. I would consider at least trying an ag pump before needing to construct a custom, 125psi...
FYI on the twin shaft trannies - they end up being wider than the tranny tunnel, requiring a fair bit of sheet metal work to make a new doghouse, which may also cascade into redoing the seat platform.
BTW, when I put the single shaft Spicer 6855 (sourced from a 5ton) behind the 3208 in the old...
Thanks for posting.
I have a civvy 8.3 in my hybrid 5 ton project, and I've already thrown a more aggressive fuel plate into the IP. May I assume from your post that longevity is not a concern if I also throw 3k governor springs into the IP?
Best,
Bob
Yep, I was looking for a price point closer to that of the AVM lockouts offered for the 2.5 ton trucks. $3.5k per axle is, well, much much more than I'm interested in spending to decouple the wheel to the axleshaft on the front axle.
And, to confirm, I'm referring to lockouts, commonly called...
One thing that comes to mind is that there is an iteration of the 5 ton axle that has roughly 10:1 reduction in the gears. Here, I found some additional details:

Yep, 10.26. I was thinking that was the ratio. I don't know...
First off, AVM has been incredibly helpful with helping me brainstorm where I might find parts for my broken 5 ton hub (I bought a recent ebay auction with one good and one broken hub). Ultimately, I was unsuccessful in finding spares (I need the inner coupling ring), but did ask what the cost...
When I installed the 3208 in a previous iteration of my deuce, I ran the 12v starter on 24v for a few years. It sure cranked quickly, but I didn't start it but maybe 500 times, so I'm not sure what the long term effects of 24v was.
Eldgenb, as the grille on the M35 platform is directly in front of the radiator, how was the grille reworked in the truck you helped with that received the 8.3?
