Whats the average life on the multi fuel motor?

It is not odd to see properly maintained farm tractor diesels with 6,000 hours on them and still going. Speaking of farm tractors, these engines are used in White farm tractors, so parts are going to be available there for a long time, too. I say, no worries! Regards Marti

Ventilated Multifuel engines, Turbo or Non-Turbo?

It is my opinion from my experiences to date that failures like this are not the fault of turbo/non turbo or fuel settings. It has to do with mechanical problems relating to bearings, failed fasteners, incorrect torques, low oil level, incorrect oil. Starting and driving habits also can be the...

    440 Dodge w/727 Deuce

Steel crank 440's are internally balanced, forged crank motors are externally balanced. Some heavy trucks have 413's in them with bell, clutch, and truck transmission that might work for you. It will be shorter that the 727. Regards Marti

    How To Loosen Lug Nuts?

I have no idea of the stock number. None is stamped on the units I have. I saw them regularly on Ebay when I would enter a search by putting "military truck". I remember a guy with the Ebay name Molinestud selling them. I can send a pic to your email if you wish. Marti

    M37 3rd member gasket

I put mine in without a gasket, using RTV sealer. It has been fine with no leaks for four years now. We do the same on our 8 3/4 Mopar rears with no problems. Just be sure the mating surfaces are clean. Marti

New here, just bought a 1977 M880, so of course.......

I found it is a good idea to get away from the 16,5 tires. Expensive or hard to find, or both. I went to the local four wheel drive shop. They usually have stock steel 8 lug 16" rims they have taken off somebody's truck to put fancy wheels on. I bought a set of four cheap and used them on my...

    Shifter Threads

The 5 ton and deuce trannys are entirely different. The 5 tons are a huge 5 speed with direct high. The M35 deuce trannys are a smaller 5 speed with overdrive high. The output flanges on them are different. The output flange on the 5 ton is a large circular flange with eight bolts. The deuce...

    Cracked 302 exhaust manifold

I did have one, but would have to hunt through all of the parts piles for it if you want it. The biggest mistake people make with these long exhaust manifolds is tightening the retainer bolts too tight. They need to be able to move lengthwise as they heat and cool. Hold them too tight, and they...

    Starter push button

I don't think a dimmer switch would be a good idea. Many older farm tractors in the '50's like the SC Case and Massey 44 and 55 used a heavy duty push button you would not burn out. You can get them at an AGCO store, or maybe NAPA. You would need a bit larger hole in the dash for it, probably...

Just curious: duals on the front?

My experience with the types of heavy soils we have here in northern Indiana is that duals are a hinderance in deep mud. Once the space between the tires fills up solid with mud, you go nowhere. Like trying to push a lawnroller through the mud. I have seen pictures of dualled fronts for desert...

    How To Loosen Lug Nuts?

We use the torch to heat as suggested. We also put grease on the threads of all of our wheels, DOT frown or not. The DOT guy is not the guy running the wrench! We have not had overtorque or loosening problems from it, but we tighten with a socket and breaker bar, not an air wrench. We were...

would anyone want to exchange turbos?

We find the whistler turbos build power quicker at lower RPM's. Less "turbo lag". They also build more boost than the regular turbo. The snail on the exhaust side is different, driving the turbo faster to give the above benefits. Regards Marti

Can a M880 be hauled with axle clamps?

Just an FYI for everyone on towbar towing. The Dodge owner's manual says a 4x4 can be towed any distance at any safe speed under the following conditions: Transfer case in neutral Transmission in park Drivetrain in good condition If one end is off the ground, I would remove the driveshaft to...

    Power steering question

Good point, Jon. I missed the cutaway view. My engineering information shows Delrin, depending on formulation, having a melt-flow point of 345 to 374 degrees Fahrenheit. This is why I suggested 200 degrees F. We can still investigate if they can be drilled in a strategic point for a grease...

    Power steering question

Bjorn: I have heated joints with a torch and then put them in cold automatic transmission oil. As the part cools, it draws the oil into the joint. If possible, work the joint as it cools under the oil. ATF's high detergent content really floats the crud out of stuff when you work it during...
