I agree with Derrick, but I know this is personal preference. The 1600s will fit, but I know that guys have said that they sap the power out of the truck. IMO, 1400s are plenty beefy, but I do realize that guys always want more....and that is the reason that most of us have more than one truck!
The only reason to bid that far away is because a truck is not available stateside. I bought an M932 in HI when they were not available in the continental U.S. The cost will shock you. There are no savings. I had over $11K in that truck by the time I got it home...and that was 11 years ago! I...
From this limited information, I'd say you have a bad sprag. The sprag itself can be replaced...or you can swap the entire transfer case. In certain rare circumstances, I've heard of sprags freeing up. I have never tried doing that. I've always either replaced the transfer case or replaced...
Dump truck troop seats will not fit a 5 ton cargo. The seats and the way they work are totally different. They actually unhinge and fit into the sides of the dump body while in use.
With regard to buying a dump, I'd recommend in order an M817 (cheapest...can't believe how the prices have dropped), an M917 (hauling 20 tons at a time is nice), and then an M929 (the roomier cab and Allison automatic make operation nice). I really like the M929s and have one, but they are hard...
If anyone needs fiberglass troop seats, bows, or even the complete cargo cover kits for 5 ton dumps, I've got them. Only replying with this info in a thread because people indicated they were looking for them.
Thanks, guys. I appreciate the birthday wishes. Sorry it took so long to say thanks. I was out yesterday doing what you'd expect...beers with my brother in the afternoon (took off early) and dinner with my wife, brother, and his wife in the evening...then cake. Thanks, again!
...oh yeah, that system blows cold and hard. I have not yet tried it on a hot day because it is still fairly cool around here, but I suspect it will cool the cab, even with the soft top, just fine. If I have any real loss, I will swap the hard top from one of my other M939 series trucks.
The A/C set up was pricey. I don't have the receipt in front of me, but it was in the $6K range. I wavered for obvious reasons, but I decided I wanted a truck I could drive in the summer.
How do you plan to get two trailers home at once? Do you have a car or equipment trailer to haul them home with? Some guys have gotten GL to flip one trailer onto the other. That is a lot of weight to haul with a civvy truck, though. Congratulations on the score. They look like really nice...
The M939 series trucks are much more complex mechanically and, as such, they could potentially have many more problems. Personally, I prefer the M939 series trucks as I believe they out-perform the older M809 series trucks. With that said...and there is always a caveat...if I had to have a...
DUNCAN, your truck is amazing. Thank you for sharing the pictures. I can't wait to see the videos! I wonder how the MAN 8X8s and HEMTTs compare performance-wise. I've owned two HEMTTs and never really took them off-roading.
Call Terry in CA...619-670-4268. You will pay for it, but he's got, or can get, ANYTHING you need as far as the M35A3 is concerned. Terry is a great guy and helped me get some tough-to-find parts. He is an official AM General supplier. Terry is also a member of this site. Good luck.
