    Mountain Driving?

Hey Bjorn, From whom did you source out the extra switch? Nobody has the mil one... I called Boyce, Saturn Surplus, and Memphis. It would be cool if it looked mil-spec-ish. ;) Thanks again! bob

    Mountain Driving?

Bjorn! That's pure genius ...... that front air axle switch will be PERFECT to engage the pneumatic ram. That's so excellent - I hadn't thought of that. Dude you just made my day. Now if you could just also find me the appropriate intake and air filter setup for my junk, I'd be done. :)...

    Mountain Driving?

I picked up an exhaust brake last Friday for $80 at a wrecking yard, cash on the barrelhead. It was siezed and in unknown condition, but I took it home and with a little heat (ok, alot of heat!) and some penetrating oil, I got it operating again smooth as ever. It came with the unloader port as...

Will a deuce crack or damage a 4" slab?

So.... While I did the engine swap, I had the deuce on my front driveway for about, what, 3 months? In that time, we had all sorts of rain and snow. Yep, it cracked, and I'd say it settled a good 3/4 of an inch!!! :) This is with the 14,000 lbs of the deuce (I should weigh it after the 3208)...

fuel pump in the tank die on the M35a2

Yeah 12v is pretty tame compared to 24v.... 24v is quite a little joy buzzer, ain't it?

fuel pump in the tank die on the M35a2

Howdy folks! I hooked up the pump from Saturn Surplus last night and man if it doesn't make all the difference. $38 or something plus shipping, and aside from being noisy, it's the stuff! It should be JUST fine for what I need. Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Excellent! By the way, I also...

fuel pump in the tank die on the M35a2

Well, I got some about 2 hours ago and my local Napa was out of it. ;) I ran down the street to Carquest and picked some up. $1.50 a foot. Heck, even my hardware store has it out here. I should have my fuel all hooked up here in about an hour. Yeeehaw! Cheers Bob

2 group 31 optimas should let me burn 3/32", no problem

Yeah, cost me about $55 or so to put it together, not counting solder or anything. I'd try it right now but without an easy means to recharge my batteries (truck isn't quite running), I don't want to kill the bluetops and then have to try to pull start the truck or something. ;) Bob

2 group 31 optimas should let me burn 3/32", no problem

So in case you're wondering what the Hey these are, this is the 2 pin slave cable connector for the side of the deuce, into which I've soldered some 1/0 welding cable and some twist lock connectors. I'll be able to hook ground clamps and the stinger into each contact and do battery welding...

Deuce Painted , ramps complete, Jeep in bed, Haspin or BUST

This is so excellent! This is what I'll be doing in a week, assuming I can get my junk to run. I am hooking up my radiator tonight and hopefully finishing the intake, and I have some 12" steel for ramps. Mine's a built up ZJ, but I might take the buggy (going to Moab on the 10th). Cheers Bob

    Front Drive Axles

Yeah D Rat, those tracta joints are "strong", but probably not that much stronger than, say, a stock M1008 (dana 60) axle shaft... From http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=237896 "The 2 1/2 ton U joint style, max. static load is 3,600 foot lbs. of torque. The convel model "E" used...

By the way, I have some spare shafts lying around... let me know if you want me to measure anything. Bob

    Front Drive Axles

Ok the weird "claw" style is the "Tracta joint" style. Not strong, and not desirable. I don't know if the GMC used these or not, but early M35's definitely did. Waster. However, the ones on the right look like Convel style CV's. There are only a couple of the "Rzeppa" style joints for the M35...

Procedure for going from 6x6 to 4x4

fyi if anyone wants to buy a 105 for just the bed and end up "getting rid of the frame" I will gladly take it off your hands. :) Bob

Procedure for going from 6x6 to 4x4

Hrm. Rivets are the easy part of the job. As stated, take the head off (I use the plasma torch), and then put a center punch in them (I again use the plasma torch!), and whang on em with the biggest GD hammer you have around, using a generic round "alpha tool" (The round prybar) as the driver...
