    California CDL: Another Clarification (long)

That's from a handbook, not from the actual vehicle code, so it might not be 100% accurate. However, two things jump out from this: 1) An M35A2 is not included under the Class C license, because it has 3 axles and weighs over 6,000 pounds gross. 2) According to that handbook page, the...

    California CDL: Another Clarification (long)

Argh, not this dead horse again! Either a Class B or Class A license is required to legally drive an unmodified M35A2C in California, no matter what your intended use is. A Class C license (the kind that regular car-drivers have) is not sufficient. This is different (and more stringent) than...

    Server Outages

Thanks again for all of your hard work!

Do you need a big rig liscence?

I can only speak for California, which probably won't help you too much, but here goes anyway! CA requires at least a class B commercial driver's license for the 2.5-ton 6x6 trucks. State law calls them "class B trucks" because they have more than two axles and are over some weight limit (I...

    Some Setting Adjustments needed...

I sort of agree. I think the color scheme looks really attractive, but I'd welcome the ability to tweek the text and/or background colors for better readability. Not all displays or eyes are created equal! :) That being said, I do like the new site! There are some very nice new features.

    Ok, New site...

Woohoo! You're quite welcome! It seems to work, because I'm unbanned now. Thanks for unsingling me out! ;) The new "multiquote" feature is awesome!

GL ads disappeared...did I miss something?

Hmm, I like the Northern Tool idea, and I especially like the NAPA idea. Other applicable vendors might include Harbor Freight (yeah, I know, buy American, but I'm addicted to their cheap hydraulic equipment ;)), TP Tools, GM Parts Direct, and LMC Truck Parts. I learned about the existence of...

Rumor or Not - GL getting ready to Close some outlets

I'm guessing that you mean this one:

    mission impossible

See, it's amazing what a little Bondo and paint will do! rofl But seriously, that looks like it took a lot of work, and turned out very well. [thumbzup]

    Just saying thanks

Ah, so a boost gauge is needed in a cranked up engine just like an EGT gauge (pyrometer) is... and the stock deuce engine is just tuned down to the point where it should never get that hot or boost that much, right?

    I got ANOTHER one

Famous last words... I ended up with four CUCVs that way! :)

    Just saying thanks

While y'all answer the pyro question, I'm also curious about the utility of a boost gauge. I think I understand at least a little bit about how the pyro can be used (i.e., if the exhaust is getting too hot, then back off on the pedal), but I've never quite understood what actionable information...

    LDS-465-1A inframe headgasket job pictures

RE: Re: RE: Moving on... Hmm, that would look cool. I'd plumb in diesel, too, for the option of making smoke in the daytime. ;)

RE: Re: RE: Moving on... Hmm, I think you'd get a lot more smoke than flame that way. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

    LDS-465-1A inframe headgasket job pictures

Re: RE: Moving on... That sounds like the intake manifold heater. It's a starting aid for cold weather, and it doesn't have anything to do with the diesel vs. multifuel stuff. My current deuce doesn't have the manifold heater, and has an ether kit installed instead. There was just a nice...

    Another 10KW genset question

I've had a few of those 10kW gas gensets go through my hands (still trying to get rid of a trailer with two of them! ;)). As I recall, they all had that heater valve.

    Teletype Shelter Cables Needed GRC-142B

I got lucky and stumbled on my fuel-burning heater on eBay a few years ago. I needed to fabricate an exhaust pipe and the fuel line, but I found the compatible fuel line quick-disconnect fitting to match the one on the exterior of the shelter at McMaster-Carr. I might have needed to replace a...

    Re- babbitting a barring.

This is a fascinating thread! I vaguely recall reading about babbitt bearings in some old engineering book that I bought in a used book store. As I recall, the bearings described there were for large stationary equipment, and the babbitt metal would be poured in place right around the shaft...

    FNG in So CA

Welcome, Billdozer2! Will, I didn't know about that museum. I need to check it out sometime. I'll probably forget by the time I finish moving, but maybe you can remind me in a few months? ;)
