I thought about that too. I am thinking getting the RPM's down will extend my engine life. I do want to keep my 4.56's. Plus any upgrades I do could easily be swapped to a new engine if I need one.
My only question is how to get my wife to pay for this...maybe fake transmission problems...
Yes, I did a search. Do you think the gearvendor is worth the price?
I was reading about transmissions and none of them really jump out if you want a auto non computer trans. I was also thinking 6.2 replacement engines are way less than a Cummins and the gearvendor might let me get the most...
I am going after noise. I put the pad from LMC under the hood and will be adding insulation with the rubber mat to the cab soon. I need to do some rust prevention first.
One more question...would a 4bt be a better swap than a 6bt and what transmission? I realize this is blasphemy to some of you, but I am learning. YES, I used the search and read other forums.
I want your comments. I would never tow over 7000 lbs and would like to have the capability to tow 5...
It wasn't meant to be a slam to the good folks of this forum. You just need thicker skin here because the passion is greater.
Parts-the tie rods for one thing...
Holy cow I stepped in it. By my calculations any engine swap is going to cost about the same, the Cummins just a little more. I don't want a Dodge and I don't like Dodge. The CUCV is a great truck even at 25 years old. It has parts civvy trucks don't have.
The 6.2 is great for what it is...
My best mod was changing the exhaust to 2 1/2" and VForce mufflers. I no longer slow down on hills and mountains and can even accelerate if I desire. Optima batteries, 60g glow plugs with new insulated connectors that fit, manual fuel pump and Cummins Fleetguard spin on filter, and gp override...
I understand the guys who want to preserve the CUCV, I really do as I hate seeing a sporterized military rifle, so don't be angry with me.
I decided to attach a receiver hitch for the time being and see how it tows. In the meantime I will be looking for a donor truck or engine with a 5.9...
I think I have bi-polar engine disorder and hope I don't get post-traumatic-engine-disorder. I really appreciate all those who commented as I now have allot to think about. :driver:
Got it! Turbo is better and I have to move one of the batteries to make it fit (from another thread). Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I found this on EBAY, but can't give a link. Kind of pricey.
That's what I was thinking about.
Afraid to ask, but what about those humvee engines available now? Are the parts interchangable with the CUCV? I come a long ways from my original 6bt idea.
EDIT- I found this. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/44217-humvee-motor-into-cucv.html
What do larger tires do and what size?
Jeez, there is nothing wrong with my truck. I want a project and to spend money, but only if it is an improvement. :driver:
EDIT- OK, I found it.
OK, new idea. What is the best 6.2 engine I can get? I am talking about upgraded parts, etc. I read to get a 1988 or newer and what transmission should I use? Does that mean a Humvee engine? I am looking for 4 gear non-computer auto if possible, OD does not matter.
I am seeing 6.2 diesel...
I will be learning about the 700r4. Is this is an automatic non-electric trans? I am reading use a trans cooler too.

Dang, there are always trade offs. I do need to take on some mountain driving to get where I want to be. Maybe instead of the bigger engine I should be looking at improving what I have to get by.
Cheaper than an engine upgrade. Am I shortening my engine life? I don't need to drive fast.
I would like to get 65 mph comfortably. 55 is OK, but gets boring.
I am reading about the 4bt. Can that engine tow up to 10,000 lbs? The forums say it fits better. I was told Frito-Lay has 6.2 and 4bt's in their trucks around here.
