I was wondering if anyone had a pointer to the pages that would typically be in the HMMWV equipment log book? So far I've failed googling to find examples of the pages.
I'm planning on simply starting a log book on my project, but I'm curious what a REAL log book looks like.
I'm not sure I'm "skilled" enough with a vise grips to do that for all 8 cylinders.. especially the ones on the right side under the CDR and all the hoses.. as well as the one behind the generator on the left side..
YIKES! This is the crap I'm worried about, as I know the previous owner(s)...
Bullet ends, 10mm hex heads on them... (10mm is slightly larger then the 3/8" of what I believe are the normal glow plugs, thus the pulling tool doesn't fit.)
Just needed to vent.. Figured it might be useful to other people having this issue...
The smart start box of course stopped powering the glow plugs. It's getting cold, so why would it work.
Ordered a new box and 8 new glow plugs. Read on forums here and elsewhere I should get a removal tool...
Starts on page 1159 of the copy I have. The gauge part is snipped below. You'll have to figure out which wires are which since your tags are missing, but you should be able to trace them back to the control harness and other harnesses, it's just time consuming.
I bought a 2-man divider on beat, came with four brackets, luckily my rig still had to the ones that went into the B-pillar still there (they had apparently been "painted into" the B-pillar so when someone converted it to a 4-man they were left in place not realizing they weren't actually...
I ended up using the combination of mag wheel polish and the plastic cleaner/polish after. It worked wonders to both the gauges and external lights.
While I can't say they "look like new", I can say that they're no longer foggy. The rag when I was done with just the gauges had this nasty...
yes, ground and power were intermittent before. They are now solid, and I get a solid 24+V across them.
Checking the motor, I don't get any connection when I push the knob to the washer (but checking the wiring it's fine). Add to that no resistance measurement across the motor (power to...
I replaced the grommets today. The old ones HAD to be original to 1988. Boy that was difficult to remove the old ones.
Anyway, I now have a good strong electrical signal up to the motor. And wouldn't you know it, now the motor doesn't work! ARGH!
When I first "fixed" it, it worked. Then...
All of my gauges are very scratched and 'fogged up' (not moisture).
I was wondering if anyone had bought plastic headlight polish and tried to sand and polish the gauge faces to make them readable again. (Ya I know I can buy new gauges easily enough, but the ones I have are working fine.)
Well the washer trick worked a whole 4 days. Wipers no longer work again. This weekend I'll replace them with the new ones I bought. If it fails again, it's getting hard wired. (I suspect he existing grommets are original 1988, so they're flexing pretty quickly....)
Ya I was looking at that stuff. Do you have a pointer to the right type of sealing tape? From what I was looking at, it appears there is a seal on the "front" of the windshield frame where it meets the body, and then on the back where it sandwiches down onto the body.
Just got the pair of contact assemblies. Looking at new ones (vs ones on the HMMWV), it's pretty clear they're just metal "buttons" with the wiring 'pin' on them. So if you push the ping out, magically the rubber is pretty much the perfect side for 14 gauge wire. Would be trivial to discard...
My limited trouble shooting on my 1988. Work in this order:
Bulbs, grounds, switches, connectors, wiring.
On my own vehicle, multiple bulbs were out (and had been replaced with 12V versions). A few of the grounds were lose. Switches were fine. And one of the connectors was broken...
I was able to just use some small regular washers. I just covered them in dielectric grease to prevent them from moving and hopefully help them from rusting. There was still plenty of flex in the rubber on the base and windshield frame..
I had not considered using wavy washers to make up the...
